The damaru is very common throughout the Indian subcontinent. The damaru is known as a power drum, and when played, it is believed to generate spiritual energy. It is associated with the Hindu deity Shiva. We all are family members of Shiva and he is our father. And the Shiv Ganas and Nandi who reside with Shiva on Mount Kailash, are His family members too.

Shiva is Baidyanath, the God for medicine. Since we get all the medicines from trees, so all the trees are His family members. Shiva is referred as the Pashupati Nath, the God for all animals. In this way everyone is family member of Shiva :)

According to Padma Purana, Shiva and Parvati have three Children, 2 sons namely Lord Kartekeya and Lord Ganesh and one daughter named Ashoka Sundari.

Lord Kartekaya was born to relieve the world from Tarakasur’s atrocities. Lord Kartekeya is often referred as Mahasena , he is a great warrior and chief commander for the army of Devas.
When Kartekeya leaves Kailash and doesn't return for a long time , Parvati to come out of her loneliness , asks the Magical tree Kalpavriksh, to grant her a daughter. Thus her wish is fulfilled, and she becomes mother to Ashoka Sundari. Since, her arrival brought happiness to Parvathi , she was named thus.
And later , when Ashoka Sundari too leaves to woods to do rigorous penance, then Goddess Parvathi creates a baby boy image with her body's applied turmeric grime, and with her powers breathes life into him, and names him Ganesh.
