Following from the Prime Minister's address to the country on Sunday, and the Prime Minister's Questions on Monday, the Church of England has released a statement. Before you read it, please take a moment to pray for our Bishop James, Bishop of Rochester, who at the last communication on Thursday was showing symptoms of Coronavirus. Pray also for those whose funerals are taking place this week from our community and who died of the virus, and for those from our community and congregations who are seriously ill in hospital.
You can read the statement on the church of England website (link below) although it is transcribed in full for your convenience. (Bishop Mullally is leading the Church of England on the phased return following the lockdown)

The Bishop of London, Sarah Mullally, said: “We note from the Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Strategy that churches could be open from July as part of the conditional and phased plan to begin lifting the lockdown. We look forward to the time when we are able to gather again in our church buildings.

"We are examining what steps we will need to take to do so safely and are actively planning ahead in preparation. We strongly support the Government’s approach of continuing to suppress the transmission of the virus and accordingly, we recognise that at this time public worship cannot return in the interests of public health and safety."

We look forward to the time when we are able to gather again in our church buildings. We are examining what steps we will need to take to do so safely.

Stay safe everyone. The longer you rebel and the longer you disregard the advice to stay at home, the longer we'll fight it and the stricter the restrictions will have to be enforced.

The diocese of London is still alive and active but must close buildings in London.
