🌿No Mow May might be nearing an end, but this is just the start of the wider movement! is right around the corner.
Here's how you can keep the momentum going:
- Keep it short (in places): Low-cut areas can still host wildflowers like daisies and bird's-foot trefoil. 🌻
- Create a mini meadow by letting some patches grow longer and mowing just a few times a year. You might then spot oxeye daisies or musk mallow blooming. 🌼
- Leave it long: Taller grass offers shelter and food for frogs, hedgehogs, grasshoppers and more. 🌱

Let us know how you've been doing:

♻️ Why do we ask you to “Wash & Squash” your recycling? ♻️
At Medway Recycles, we often talk about the importance of washing and squashing your items before putting them in your recycling bin — but why does it matter?
✅ Keep it clean
A quick rinse removes food and drink остатки (leftovers), helping prevent contamination. Dirty recycling can spoil whole loads, meaning items may not be recycled at all.
✅ Make more space
Squashing bottles, cans and cardboard means you can fit much more into your recycling bin — and it helps us collect and transport more efficiently too!
✅ Improve recycling quality
Clean, compacted materials are much easier to sort and process, giving them the best chance of being turned into new products.
✅ Reduce smells and pests
Washing your recycling helps keep your bin fresher and less attractive to unwanted visitors.
It only takes a few extra seconds, but it makes a big difference 💙
Let’s keep Medway recycling right — wash it, squash it, recycle it!

🍳Here’s what to do with your used cooking oil to help keep your bins clear (and collected!) with a little help from .binman

Got a small amount of cooking oil in the bottom of your pan?
❄️Wait for it to cool
🧻Mop it up with some tissue or kitchen towel
🚮Pop it in your food waste or general waste bin

Fried up something delicious and have quite a bit of oil left over?
❄️Wait for it to cool
🫙Pour it into a used container, like an empty jar or butter tub (with a lid)
🚮Pop it in your general waste bin

Rather not bin it?
♻️Check the Recycling Locator to see if your local recycling centre accepts cooking oil, which can be turned into biofuel.
🪵Use cooking oil it on your garden shed or fence, it’s a great creosote alternative. It’s also safe to use near plants and animals
🐦‍⬛Fat from cooking meat makes great DIY fat balls for garden birds – pour it into a container, add bird seed, and wait for it to set.

⚠️ Millions of tonnes of food are wasted every year in the UK, despite much of it still being perfectly edible.

This , let’s take a step towards changing that.

We can all play a part in reducing food waste.

Small changes help:
🥕 Plan meals
🥡 Use leftovers
❄️ Freeze food before it goes to waste

Wasting less food helps protect the environment and reduces unnecessary waste 💚
