This Volunteers’ Week we want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who serves The Salvation Army in their own time.

Our volunteers bring their best selves, their God-given energies and their convictions to support our vital work. They are enthusiastic, committed and eager to give their time and skills to care for some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people in our society.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! We are so grateful for all that you do!

What a way to celebrate Pentecost by welcoming 15 new Junior and Senior Soldiers in our Church family today. We pray for God’s blessing on their lives as they follow Jesus!

Pentecost marks the ‘birthday’ of the Church.

Seven weeks after celebrating Jesus’ resurrection at Easter, we remember a particular gathering of his followers.

Extraordinary things happened – strong winds, bright flames and the ability to speak in languages they’d never spoken before! They were filled with the Holy Spirit, God’s presence with us.

This moment changed everything. Empowered in new ways, they shared the story of Jesus with others and thousands of people made the decision to join them.

They shared together and helped people in need as part of a loving community. What started that day became what we know today as church.

Today, Christians around the world celebrate the moment the Church began. Happy birthday!

We’re joining with churches around the world in the Thy Kingdom Come prayer movement, boldly praying for people everywhere to experience fullness of life with Jesus.

God’s love is a free gift available to everyone, no matter who we are or what we have done, and becoming a Christian begins with accepting this love through Jesus.

If you’re exploring faith, this simple prayer can be a starting point:

“Lord Jesus Christ, I know that I have done things in my life that are wrong and I’m sorry. Thank you that I can ask you for forgiveness because of the sacrifice you made when you died on the cross.

“Please forgive me and help me to live a better life in the future as I learn how to love you and follow your way of living. Thank you, Lord Jesus.”

Amen.

Today we think of all the children in our Community of Gateshead, and across the Northeast and indeed the nation, on their first day of year 6, SATs exams. We pray that God will give them peace and for confidence that will enable all of them to do their absolute best, and to remember they are loved and valued, not for the results expected, but for who they are. We celebrate each and every one of them across our nation!
