Before the Frome Festival winds down for another year, come to Christ Church this Sunday at 2.30pm for Jackdaws Songbirds' annual concert! Their wayfaring singers have flown around the globe, gathering songs from the Arctic to the Equator, time-travelling across centuries to bring home a battered, bulging suitcase of fabulous ditties, wrapped up in joyous a ca****la harmony. Bring spare cash for glorious half-time treats and teas, and for the retiring collection for Jackdaws Educational Trust.

This Tuesday at 6pm Musicke in the Ayre make their eagerly awaited return to Christ Church with Silver Sounds of the Roman Seicento, a delightful programme of early Baroque music from Rome, with the voices of Maria Danishvar, Jane Hunt and Philippa Neaverson soaring over Din Ghani's archlute and baroque guitar in a happy hour of music that is intimate, expressive, and full of character - music that feels surprisingly direct, even four hundred years on. Don't miss it!

This Monday at 7.30pm come to Christ Church for Masters of Baroque, a marvellous concert by Salisbury-based chamber group Ebble Baroque, whose members were involved in last night's packed Bach by Candlelight concert.

Miranda Dodd (baroque violin and recorder), Matthew Dodd (baroque bassoon) and Matthew Nisbet (archlute, theorbo and baroque guitar) will perform works by well-known composers such as Telemann, Handel and Bach alongside less familiar names such as Zamboni and Stradella. It promises to be another special Frome Festival concert!

Next week Christ Church's Frome Festival weekday lunchtime concert series returns for a fourth year! Each day from Monday to Friday at 1pm there will be a different recital lasting an hour. Tickets are £8 for individual concerts, or buy a series pass for £30 (available from the box office or on the door), representing a saving if you come to four or more of the concerts. Value for money!

On Monday 6 July Jane Osmani-Pearce and David Turner present a varied programme of late Romantic and contemporary music for flute and piano. Works will include Carl Reinecke's wonderful and exuberant Flute Concerto in D, and Debussy's Syrinx for flute and Clair de lune for piano.

On Tuesday 7 July the Julian String Quartet will perform one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire, Beethoven's quartet in A minor, op. 132. Written at a time of great personal struggle as the composer contemplated his own mortality, the work nevertheless contains hope, joy and profound beauty.

On Wednesday 8 July Richard Pinnock, Gareth Burgess and Alan Burgess join forces to celebrate composer Benjamin Britten and tenor Peter Pears, partners in life as well as in music, with a selection of songs they performed together and apart, including works by Purcell, Schubert and Britten himself, enhanced by readings from their amusing and poignant letters to each other.

On Thursday 9 July Ashley Marshfield gives the third in our series of Festival 'alphabetical' organ recitals, featuring music by composers with names from J to M, an evocative journey through three centuries of organ music from Baroque and Romantic sonatas to colourful 20th-century works.

Finally, Friday 10 July sees the return to Christ Church of string2string (Chris Hurn and Stefano Vandelli) with their magical and fluid combination of the classical cello and West African kora in 'Pravaha'. This is a Sanskrit word meaning flowing or streaming forth as in the continuous movement of water and air, and is the title of their second CD.

Do come!

There are two more great Frome Festival events at Christ Church this Sunday.

Join us at 6pm for Christ Church's monthly service of Choral Evensong, an oasis of peace in a hectic world. The music will include 'Expectans expectavi' by Charles Wood (1866-1926), the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in E major by Herbert Murrill (1909-1952) and 'Give us the wings of faith' by Ernest Bullock (1890-1979).

Then stay around for 'Love and Sorrow' at 7.45pm, a duo recital by two award-winning artists. Pianist Nicola Meecham, whose piano recital at last year's Festival was such a memorable event, will play Schubert's remarkable late piano sonata in A, D.959, and be joined by Claudia Huckle, recently acclaimed by Classical Music magazine as one of the best contraltos of all time, for Wagner's beautiful Wesendonck-Lieder.
