St Luke's Frodsham & St Cuthbert's Mouldsworth The Parish of St Luke's and St Cuthbert's is part of the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury.

On the First Sunday of Lent, the Diocese of Shrewsbury gathered at Shrewsbury Cathedral for the Rite of Election, traditionally celebrated at the beginning of this holy season of preparation.

This year’s celebration, presided over by Bishop Mark Davies, was truly remarkable:

✨ 81 Catechumens
✨ 90 Candidates
✨ 171 people in total
✨ From 31 parishes

That’s a 71% increase since 2025 (100 total) and a 108% increase since 2024 (82 total). Such was the response that an additional service had to be added to accommodate the numbers — resulting in two joy-filled celebrations.

Natalie Orefice, Director of Evangelisation and Catechesis, shared:

“It was wonderful to see so many people from many parishes come to Shrewsbury Cathedral for two joy filled Rites of Election. It was encouraging to see how many people are responding to God’s call and wanting to become members of the Catholic Church.”

We give thanks for each person responding to God’s call and for the parish communities accompanying them in faith. Please keep all our Catechumens and Candidates in your prayers as they continue their journey towards full communion this Easter.

FIRST SACRAMENTS: This week’s First Sacraments meeting for children and parents takes place this Saturday,
23rd November at 4:00pm for 4:15pm start in the Parish Centre. Enrolment of the children will take place during
the Saturday evening Mass following the meeting.

FIRST SACRAMENTS: If your child is baptised a Catholic, is currently in Year 3 or above, lives in the Parish
of St Luke’s & St Cuthbert’s, and would like to prepare for their First Forgiveness & First Holy Communion in
2026 – even if they are currently attending St Luke’s Primary – please send the following information to the
parish office via email as soon as possible: Name, date & place of baptism, date of birth and school currently
attending. A date for the first meeting will be arranged shortly, hopefully before the school half-term break.

On Sunday we will welcome Bishop Mark Davies to our Parish. Bishop Mark will be
celebrating both Sunday Masses with us, 9:00am at St Cuthbert’s and 11:00am at St Luke’s, and hopes to meet
parishioners following the Masses. We also celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the opening of St Cuthbert’s Church,
making this a very special day for parishioners who attend St Cuthbert’s.

The first session of our Children’s Liturgy will take place during the Saturday
evening 6:00pm Mass this weekend, 6th September. This academic year it is hoped that Children’s Liturgy
will be run twice monthly; the second session for September will be during the 11:00am Mass at St Luke’s on
Sunday, 28th September. These sessions are for children who have yet to make their First Holy Communion.

🌟Mass changes for this week.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: This wonderful feast, marking the special place Mary has in the life of the Church, is celebrated this Friday, 15th August, and is a Holyday of Obligation.
There will be an Evening Mass of the Vigil on Thursday, 14th August, at 7:00pm at St Luke's, and Mass on Friday will be at the later time of 10:00am. Please note, that because of these changes to our usual schedule, there will be no morning Mass on Thursday, 14th August and no Morning Prayer on Friday, 15th August.

Secretary
including office administration and secretarial duties. Main areas of responsibility include: to undertake day-to-day secretarial and administrative tasks; to co-ordinate parish communications; and to organise and support liturgical and other parish events. Applicants should have some relevant experience as a
Secretary/ Administrator in a responsible position; an understanding of the social and moral teachings of the Catholic Church; good organisation skills; and have excellent IT skills. A job specification is available on the notice board.
