Built Together

Today was a very special day in the life of our Malawi Outreach partnership.
This morning began with a Sending Service at NG Kerk Bellville-West in South Africa. Members of Bellie & Speymouth gathered in Bellie Church to watch the livestream, joining our South African friends in worship and prayer as they commissioned their team for the journey ahead.
Later in the morning, we gathered for our own Sending Service in Bellie Church. This time, members of the Bellville-West congregation gathered in their church building to watch the livestream from Scotland as we commissioned our team.
Throughout both services, we shared photographs of those who were not physically present, helping us to put faces to names and reminding us that although we may be separated by thousands of miles, we are united in Christ.
Our reading today was from Ephesians 2, where Paul reminds us that Christ has broken down every dividing wall and is building us together into one household of faith. It was difficult to imagine a more fitting picture of that reality than two congregations, in two countries, worshipping, praying, encouraging and commissioning one another across continents.
In a few weeks, members of our congregations will travel together to Malawi to help build a new school for the children of Malingunde. Yet today’s services reminded us that God is already building something far greater than a school building. God is building friendships. God is building partnerships. God is building a community that stretches from Scotland to South Africa to Malawi, with Christ himself as the cornerstone.
Thank you to everyone who has prayed, given, supported and encouraged this project. Please continue to pray for the team as preparations continue and as we look forward to the journey ahead.
“In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord.” (Ephesians 2:21)
