Clogher Valley FPC Teaching the Bible and Preaching the Gospel in a fallen world. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life"

Situated on the A4 between the villages of Clogher and Fivemiletown, our congregation has been worshipping God since it’s formation in 1970. Originally assembling in a wooden building the first permanent meeting house was erected in 1977. In 2021 the congregation moved into our new meeting house with the former building transformed into a church hall. Three verses are found in the Church building:

Entering the sanctuary the congregation is met with the ULTIMATE question -

“What must I do to be saved?”

and the timeless response -

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30-31)

Facing the preacher the text on the back wall is a pertinent reminder of the urgency of our mission-

". . . woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" (1 Corinthians 9:16). For Bible Studies and Church news visit our website:

📖 “And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head…” — Matthew 27:29 (KJV)

As many of us spend time in our gardens during these brighter days, we quickly discover how painful thorns can be. A simple thorn can pierce even through a glove with startling sharpness. Yet as painful as that is, it causes us to think of the suffering endured by the Lord Jesus Christ when cruel soldiers plaited a crown of thorns and pressed it upon His sacred brow.

Matthew chapter 27 records one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Scripture. Christ, the sinless Son of God, was mocked, scourged, stripped, beaten, and humiliated before being led away to Calvary. The soldiers placed upon Him a scarlet robe to mock His kingship, a reed in His hand as a false sceptre, and then bowed before Him in cruel ridicule crying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

But the crown of thorns meant far more than mockery.

🌿 The thorns represented the curse of sin.

Before sin entered the world, there were no thorns in Eden. There was no suffering, sickness, pain, death, heartbreak, or tears. But when mankind fell into sin, the curse entered creation. Thorns became a symbol of a broken world — a world marked by sorrow, tragedy, disease, violence, and death.

Every funeral, every hospital ward, every broken heart reminds us that this world suffers under the curse of sin.

Yet Christ willingly wore the crown of thorns because He came to bear that curse for us.

✝️ On the cross, Jesus Christ suffered not only physical agony, but the judgment of God against sin. During the three hours of darkness, He endured the wrath that sinners deserve. That is why He cried out:

“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?”

He was forsaken so that guilty sinners might be forgiven.

The crown of thorns reminds us that Jesus took our place. He bore our guilt. He tasted death for us. He endured the curse so that we might receive eternal life.

No matter your past, no matter your failures, there is forgiveness through Jesus Christ. There is hope at the cross. There is life for all who will come and trust in Him.

🙏 Today, look to the Saviour who wore the crown of thorns for you.

🙏 Sunday night concluded our month of testimonies, and what a special evening it was for our church family. One of the highlights of the night was having four generations of one family gathered together under the sound of God’s Word.

It was a joy to welcome Mrs. Lily Gibson, from the hills of Dromara in Co. Down and now in her 99th year, alongside her daughter Muriel Ferguson (Enniskillen), her granddaughter Rebecca Bennett, one of our own church members, her great-granddaughters, Martha, Gracie, and great-grandson Austin. ❤️

It was wonderful to see how God has blessed this family over the generations. Their family’s faithfulness to the Lord over many years is a testimony to God’s grace and a reminder of the lasting influence of a Christian home and a life lived for Christ. 🙏📖

We thank God for this family and for the encouragement they were to us all on Sunday evening. May the Lord continue to bless them and the generations that follow. ❤️
