Happy feast of Saint Brocard. He was Carmelite prior of Mount Carmel. Once elected as prior, Brocard asked Saint Albert, the patriarch of Jerusalem, to draw up a rule for the monks. This rule, established in 1195, became the foundation for the Carmelite Order.

The Shrine is served by the Carmelites.

Saint Brocard, pray for us.

There are two images of Saint Brocard at the Shrine. In the image above is Saint Albert giving the Carmelite 'way of life' (Rule document) to Saint Brocard on Mount Carmel - an icon at the National Shrine of Saint Jude. The ecumenical phase begins on 1 September with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and concludes on 4 October with the Feast of Saint Francis. It is a special time to pray and work together to care for our common home.
