From noodles to flatbreads and loaves, wheat provides most of the world’s calories. This year, thanks to war and weather, it’s now more expensive to harvest and transport. Russian and Ukrainian grain shipments are almost at a standstill. In France, Europe’s largest producer, yields are expected to be low and it's the same story in Germany.

Here in the South West, our friends at Gleaning Cornwall, who provide us with good, nutritious food gleaned from West Country farms, report that there’ll be none for the foreseeable future due to the drought’s impact on farm yields.

For us, the combination of rising costs and funding shortfalls is putting severe pressure on our operations, making our future far more uncertain than it should be. That's our last Summer Picnic for this year. We've loved welcoming friends old and new! Thanks to Exeter Library for bringing their wonderful resources last week and to Devon Co-op Community for the scrumptious cakes and ideas for future events. Thanks also to Sharon Children's Mission Enabler for sharing some brilliant games.

We've moved indoors! The Summer Picnic has taken shelter inside church. We've still got craft and games, as well as Devon Co-op Community with cakes and activities 😍

Tomorrow is the last Summer Picnic for this summer. We've got more craft and games to enjoy over a cuppa or ice cream. Judith from Co-op is joining us with activities and, perhaps, a treat or two!
If it's showery, we'll head into St David's Church Exeter.
Drop in tomorrow anytime between 12 and 2pm.

We were delighted to hold a marriage blessing for Bolun and Hanyu, visiting us from China! Mike officiated, Feng translated and Robert played the organ. Afterwards both bride and groom impressed us with some beautiful piano playing.
