When the Wind is Against us
Only a short while ago, churches across our Benefice were praying for rain. The rain has come, and we give thanks.
Now another storm is bringing fear and uncertainty to rural Devon. The growing outbreak of bluetongue is causing deep anxiety among farming families, some are awaiting test results, others are caring for sick livestock, and many are watching their flocks and herds wondering what the coming days may bring.
This Sunday, we will join churches across Holsworthy Deanery in praying for all those affected, for our farmers and their families, for the animals in their care, and for vets, market workers, rural chaplains and everyone responding to the outbreak.
But the storms of life are not found only in our fields. Illness, grief, loneliness, financial pressure and uncertainty can leave any of us feeling as though the wind is against us.
In Sunday’s Gospel, the disciples are caught in a storm and Jesus comes towards them. He does not promise us a life without storms, but he promises that we will never face them alone.

We will also be holding Minnie and her family in prayer ahead of her baptism that afternoon.
Come as you are. Come to pray. Come to support our farming community. Come and turn your eyes upon Jesus.
