The Parish of St Thomas, Exeter

The Parish of St Thomas, Exeter We're an Anglican church in the liberal Catholic Tradition on the west of the river Exe in Exeter. You're very welcome to join us.

Our mission is to be a community that's welcoming, outward-looking and outward-reaching, rooted in prayer and worship. The church is usually open for private prayer 10.00am - 3pm Monday to Friday. We hold services in the church on Sundays from Palm Sunday to mid November. NB In winter, the regular Sunday services are held in the (much warmer) church hall. Our Christmas services are held back in the church building. Please see notices and FB posts for further details.

It was wonderful to see the church packed last night, as Bishop Moira, the Bishop of Crediton, led the service of institution and licensing of our new Rector, Hannah Alderson.

We're grateful to the University chapel choir who, having sung for Hannah's last service as the University chaplain, came and sang for her first service at St Thomas. Likewise to the representatives of other churches in St Thomas, St Gabriel's School, and various other St Thomas organisations and groups who spoke, welcoming Hannah to the community.

It was a very special service to recognise a very special priest. Welcome Hannah!

After a summer of grateful thanks to God and ambitious prayers for the future, we are delighted to finally welcome our new Rector, the Rev'd Hannah Alderson.

Hannah will be instituted and licensed in a special service tonight at 7:30PM at St Thomas. Everyone is warmly invited to come along and join in officially welcoming her.

She has lived and ministered in Exeter for a long time, but she is looking forward to getting to know people on this side of the river better, and to serving this community. We are thrilled that she will be leading us and excited about the future of the parish.

You are welcome to join us this Sunday morning for an all-age service to celebrate the start of the new school year.

We will thanking God and praying for our schools, colleges, and university; their teachers and tutors; and for everyone who helps to educate those in our community.

And of course we'll be singing some absolute assembly bangers! What's your favourite school hymn/song? Let us know in the comments!👇

As temperatures soar again, we are once more extending the daytime hours the church is open and repeating the invitation for people to come and use it as a refuge from the heat.

The tall trees in the churchyard are some of the best outdoor heat shelters around, and the stone building is naturally cool. Passers-by are always welcome to come in, but in this weather it is especially worth factoring a cool break.
