REASONS TO COME TO OUR GIG #3: US!

πŸ’€((***ticket link in comments***))πŸ’€

The final band of our UPCOMING SHOW at on the 23rd of JANUARY will, of course, be us, Oppress!!!

And so here's a clip of us playing "Spoon Fed From Heaven's Chamber Pot" at last years winter warm up. Just try not to look at The Wrong Reverend's crotch for too long. "Whoever looks into the abyss" etc...

However, this will mark our first gig with new bass player, R.H. (or, as he has now been black-metal-baptised, "Goat Stimulator").

You can catch us playing our completely unacceptable "music" along with and if you didn't already know that.

Event page here: https://fb.me/e/6SfMRwFkA

See you there.

EDIT: thx to for taking the footage!

Oppress. - 2025 reflections

Things that happened in 2025 include:

We found a NEW BASS PLAYER, Mr. R.H. or Aaron Le Moor as he is
known, here. (See our post from 31st October for some sikk rehearsal footage!) Welcome, Aaron.

We have completed writing the music and lyrics for a NEW MINI ALBUM. The working title is "MUTILATED D*CK-ENERGY". We will all be working on learning, rehearsing and recording and playing these new songs in the course of next year.

We made a MUSIC VIDEO for the song Gibbet, and decided to submit it to Two Short Nights Film Festival. I'm sure they really
appreciated us submitting a "film" that we don't even know the aspect ratio of. Predictably enough, we weren't featured, and no, we didn't get that tenner back either.

We played a small number of gigs. Thanks to our excellent hosts,
Charlie at UMP - Untouchable Management & Promotions, Steph at Ascendancy Productions, the lads at Southwest Heavyfest winter warm-up and one or two others. You all have the patience of saints.

Next year, we might even manage...a fifth gig.

Thanks also to the excellent bands we played alongside, Bullhead UK, Final Dose, Stahlsarg, Necronautical, and many many others.

More to come from us in the new year re. gig in Exeter Move!

Happy new year.

Wrong Reverend J XIX
Big Special - Postindustrial Hometown Blues (2024): I'm big on this
kind of raw hip-hop/modern punk hybrid sound. The strong Midlands accent coming through much of Joe Hicklin's vocals reminds me of home and gives the album a sense of gritty realness. introspective, smart, often dark and always witty.

Moron Police - Pachinko (2025): The release of Pachinko was delayed due to the death of their drummer and friend Thore Pettersen, which obviously had a huge impact and it's very clear in
some of the lyrics, despite their upbeat, off-the-wall sound.
It's like the music from Sonic Adventure, gone prog.

Poe - Haunted (2000): rediscovered when replaying Alan Wake
in anticipation of the second game. I looked into the soundtrack artists to discover that the album was written as a companion piece to House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, and that Poe is his sister. A strange blend of pop, trip-hop (a'la Portishead) and experimental music. The listening experience is much improved as a fan of the book.

Dishonourable mentions: Conjurer "Unself", Primitive Man "Observance" Blood Incantation "Absolute Elsewhere"

***
Ouroboros Emesis
Sulfuric Cautery - Consummate Extirpation (2025)
Every SC album has a different snare sound - this time it sounds
like someone flicking a metal saucepan. Gotta respect a good snare
ping.

Sligm - Untethered Dimensions EP (2025)
Riffy death grind with the vocalist from Fluids. Need I say more?

Kanonenfieber - Die Urkatastrophe (2024)
Despite not playing anything extremely technical, Hans has quickly
become one of my favourite active drummers. Noise's songwriting is excellent.

Dishonourable mentions:
Aesop Rock (either of the two albums he's released this year). Early Xysma from when they were grindcore.

***
Vermimancer OG
Sagart Alghague - Skazy Podzemnoj Vody
Artsy, lofi, atmospheric, music sort of like a witchy Jandek, but
more musical. Lyrics are written in some made-up language.
Microtonal (or just out of tune?) kithara. Simple but effective.

Pfarre - Spolia
Dancy electronic dungeon-synth whatever. Saw them at life after death, best thing that evening, though that may just be because I had a skull crushing migraine which ruined my enjoyment of everything afterwards.

Potentia Potestas - Lobo
industrial/electronic/noise, it's very simple really, there's not
much I can say that isn't already contained in those
genre descriptions, I just happened to listen to it a lot,
especially the second track, "Asalto".

Dishonourable mentions:
Morktar Plagued by this Hagridden Life, Gjendod two most recent albums, old Grifteskymfning.

***
R.H. Aaron Le Moor
Hate Forest - Against all Odds
TAOS - Passion So**my Terror
Gorgoroth - Pentagram - (Aaron is a man set in his ways)

Now, GO AWAY.

Dear all,

We hereby announce that R.H. (Aaron Le Moor) will be joining Oppress. as our bass player for subsequent live activities.

Enjoy some rehearsal footage - the song is "Ghislaine", we thought some of you might appreciate it just now. The Bathory t shirt is apposite , no?

This o**y of spite will take place at Move. Tickets Β£8 in advance, Β£10 OTD (link in the comments).
