St George’s Parade Service at Ruxley Church

Ruxley Church was pleased to welcome Ruxley 1st Sea Scouts for a parade service on 26th April. It was great to see the Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts make their promises for the year ahead.
The Beavers had brought along artwork to help tell the story of St George going back to when he stood up for Christian values against Roman Emperor Diocletian and instilled the values of good against evil.
The service was also very special because many of the Scout leaders were presented with long service awards by Karl Nicholas, the former District Commissioner. Between the leaders they had given 105 years of voluntary service!
The following received ‘The Award for Merit’: Lynette for 15 years, Kevin for … years, Jen for 20 years and Liz 25 years; their certificates having been signed by Bear Grylls who was the 10th Chief Scout ending in 2024, having volunteered himself for 15 years.
Lastly, Dave was awarded ‘The Bar to the Award for Merit’.

You can find out more about these awards in the pictures with the post.

Our young people wanted to run a fund raising activity and support the charity of their choice. They did this on Friday 10th April by running a Bingo Night, with added Auction.

Great Easter service this morning. Lots of new families and children, extended family members, visitors and friends. The Community Choir excelled, singing unaccompanied! Lots of fun activities to keep the children amused. Heard the familiar story through the eyes of Mary, John and Peter.
The craft work looked great, interspersed with flowers.

Easter Coffee and Craft
Come and see the lovely delicate string basket creations, sometime over Easter.
There was a lot of gluey mess, but resulted in a wide range of baskets containing eggs, bunnies, and Easter Garden type designs.
There are also some pictures of the Palm Cross and flowers from yesterday's Palm Sunday service.

Earth Hour 2026 – it’s on Saturday 28th March
How would you like to join in a global symbolic ‘lights out’ event to mark the 20th Anniversary of Earth Hour?
In the UK, you are invited to turn off your lights at 8.30-9.30pm and to do something positive for our planet.

Earth Hour is calling on individuals, communities, and businesses across the world to switch off their lights and Give an Hour for Earth, spending 60 minutes doing something - anything - positive for our planet (probably at some other time of the day)! Whether you’re into food, fitness, the arts, or the outdoors, anyone, anywhere can Give an Hour to care for our planet.

Earth Hour, organized by WWF, is a global grassroots movement uniting people to act on environmental issues and protect the planet. Engaging a massive mainstream community, Earth Hour was famously started as a lights out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage millions of supporters globally, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide to take action for the environment, and driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the crowd. As the movement grows, the one-hour lights out event continues to be the symbol of a broader commitment toward nature and our planet.
