In this talk on Malachi, God calls for genuine honour and respect rather than apathetic, substandard offerings that treat Him as less than holy, pointing to the need for a perfect substitute. Jesus is presented as that Lamb of God—our flawless sacrifice—who ended the temple system and grants access to God through His cross. The practical application urges believers to live sacrificially by offering themselves daily (Romans 12:1), serving others generously, declaring His praises, and approaching God with reverence as the great King. The Ubuntu Football Academy is a non-profit organization based in Cape Town, South Africa, dedicated to the holistic development of elite youth footballers into "citizens of significance" and servant leaders. Founded on Christian convictions and the African philosophy of Ubuntu ("I am because we are"), the charity provides long-term, fully-funded investment in children from historically disadvantaged communities.
Rather than focusing solely on producing professional sports stars, the organization uses football to mentor, educate, and shape positive role models to transform society. Mark Slessenger works for this organisation which includes a girls footballer program. It focuses on world-class football training which can lead to placements into high level football squads, mentoring, education, character formation, career skills for life beyond football, numeracy, literacy and nutrition.

Just a few things going on this week: There has been a great 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 organised by '𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗽𝘀𝗼𝗺' for various needs across Epsom and Ewell. We at CCE have also continued to run 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 and re-started a 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 😋

In this talk on Jesus' "I am" statement from John 11, we see that the resurrection is not merely a future event but a person—Jesus Christ—who demonstrated His power by raising Lazarus from the dead after four days, calling death "sleep" and proving He can remove its fear, reverse loss, and release us from sin's bo***ge. Other things mentioned include: Romans 6:4-7 (on being united with Christ's death and resurrection for new life now), and Daniel 12:2 (on the two resurrections), while noting Jesus' tears as evidence of His compassionate care amid human suffering. On practical application, believers are urged to reckon themselves dead to old sins and alive in Christ today—freeing them from habits like addiction or resentment - while trusting Him for eternal hope and inviting others to know the risen Saviour.

The 'Besom Project' is a great practical ministry. The Besom provides furniture, clothing, toys, fridges, kettles, toasters, sofa's, beds and TV's to families in need. Teams help to decorate and furnish houses turning them into homes ... or turn jungles into gardens so that children can play in them or elderly couples can sit in their garden and enjoy a cup of tea. This operates out of a base in Ashtead covering the wider area (and used to include Epsom) but now “Churches Together in Epsom” are looking to see if they can launch a new Besom hub specifically centred in Epsom/ Ewell areas.

In this talk on Mark 12:38-44, emphasizes a profound lesson - where a poor widow's small offering of two copper coins is valued by Jesus as greater than the large sums given by the wealthy. This highlights that true giving is measured by the heart and sacrifice - not the by the amount - and is seen by God. Although some in the temple system were known to exploit widows (Jesus also was lamenting and condemning that- and she was likely aware) she chose to be a generous, cheerful giver because of her love for God and Jesus honoured her memory.
