We look forward to welcoming Khenpo Karma Drodul back to Samye Ling in a few days' time. We have benefitted from Khenpo Drodul's wonderful teachings for several years now and are delighted that this time Khenpo will be giving extensive teachings on the Abhidharma, beginning on 19th June.

This is a rare opportunity to receive in-depth teachings on this major aspect of the Buddhadharma, based on the text by the 9th Gyalwang Karmapa 'The Essence of the Great Ocean of Abhidharma’.

Anyone interested can attend for as long or short a time as they can manage.

Last weekend we had the pleasure of hosting two delightful yoga groups in Samye Ling.

And yesterday Lothlorien residents arrived for a short visit and made a great contribution to the day's gardening tasks.

Over the last few weeks we’ve had a series of wonderful dharma activities in Samye Ling. First was the 6th UK Kagyu Monlam with seven days of prayers and teachings dedicated to world peace, attended by guests and visitors from far and wide.

Then there were two days of prayers to bless the ashes of people who have passed away followed by a procession with family members to instal the blessed ashes in the Stupa and Prayer Wheel Walkway.

And finally on the auspicious 15th day of Saga Dawa, there were Arhat Prayers and a Refuge Ceremony.

Thanks to the efforts of visiting Khenpos, Lamas, Sangha and others all of these activities went extremely well.

While Drupon Rinpoche and other Lamas departed shortly after the Kagyu Monlam, Lama Dondam, Lama Gyaltsen and Chant Master Nyima Dorje remained and officiated at the ensuing events.

They had enough time for walks in the beautiful local countryside and for a few relaxing breaks in the Tibetan Tea Rooms.

They also enjoyed a sightseeing trip to Edinburgh where they visited the Scottish Parliament, St Giles Cathedral and Arthur’s Seat, taking time to make prayers dedicated to world peace and to meditate in each place.

We share this selection of photos so you will also have a memento of these wonderful times.

We were honoured to welcome a group of Butanese Buddhist practitioners who made a Saga Dawa pilgrimage to Samye Ling.

It was a pleasure to connect with the Sangha members in the group, and delightful to see rhe others in their beautiful, traditional Butanese costumes.

Special auspicous Saga Dawa events continued with a beautiful Refuge Ceremony in the temple. Some took refuge for the first time while others renewed their commitment and took lay-person's (Genyen) precepts. A joyful occasion for all.

It was sad to hear that local resident Phil Johnson passed away recently. Phil was a long-time student of Akong Rinpoche’s, who had previously been a resident of Samye Ling and also completed four years of retreat in Purelands Men’s Retreat House.

Phil was a good friend to everyone. He was very devoted to Akong Rinpoche and after Rinpoche passed away he continued to support and help Samye Ling. Whatever we asked him, he never refused, helping with The Akong Memorial Foundation and the Audio Visual department amongst other things. He was a good friend of Gyamtso’s and when we asked him to help Gyamtso, he did everything he could.

Phil was also extremely fortunate that, just at the time he passed away, so many of his friends and fellow dharma students gathered in Samye Ling for the UK Kagyu Monlam prayers. Once the Kagyu Monlam was over, the visiting Rinpoches and Lamas consecrated the ashes and brought them to the Stupa. So he was actually very lucky that so many people dedicated so many prayers to him.

Like many others, we will miss Phil and his kind and gentle presence.
