Pray with us today.

What song shall I sing today? What prayer shall I pray today?

Abide with me, O Love Divine.

Thank you, God, for music and song in our hearts and lives.

I pray to you every new morning, anticipating what might lie ahead.

I pray to you in the afternoon, thinking of family and friends.

I pray to you in the evening, repeating “Thank you, God” for life in all its richness, remembering all who cannot sing or pray because of pain and sorrow in their lives.

What song shall I sing tomorrow? What prayer shall I pray tomorrow?

Pamela Stenson, President, Methodist Women in Britain, Darlington District

Pray with us today.

We thank you, our Father and Mother, for teaching us the value of hope in the midst of the storms that accompany our lives. We thank you for being able to share with the poorest people the hunger and thirst for love that gives meaning to life. From our humble condition as your children, we pray that the wars will end. We beg you to perform one of your miracles of love and wisdom so that armies may be transformed into sowers of peace, justice and fraternity for their countries and for our world.

Thank you for allowing us to be resurrected everyday thanks to the water of new life of the gospel. Amen.

Pray with us today.

Creator God, in Jesus you embrace all of our human condition. In him, you weep with us, lament with us and strive with us for a world of righteousness and justice. We grieve with communities, families and individuals in the beautiful city of London who are afflicted by violence, who mourn for those lost to its effects, and who yearn and cry out for a better future. Send your Holy Spirit afresh upon us we pray – make us channels of peace; renew in us Christ’s work of reconciliation; give us the wisdom to know what makes for healing, and to give our lives for it in his name. Inspire us to plant and to nurture your seeds of hope, that your grace might flow in abundance and all your children know the freedom which is your promise and your gift in Christ. Amen.

Pray with us today.

Hope does not disappoint: Spes non confundit (Romans 5:5) Let us pray for all Pilgrims of Hope

What do we sing? Alleluia! When do we sing it?

Beaten Fastened to the stocks Yet, singing hymns to God at midnight (Acts 16:22)

Thank God we arrived here But the door is firmly shut And we are at the end of our tether

Jesus Christ, you proclaimed The jubilee year of the Lord Liberty to the oppressed (Luke 4:18-20)

You said you are the door (John 10:9-16) We rejoice and sing for joy as A door shall be opened to the excluded (Luke 6:22)

You blessed the poor of the earth Bring it on, Lord: an earthquake Shaking the foundations And ushering in your kingdom

When do we want it? Now(!) and forever. Amen.

Pray with us today.

Creative and radiant God, your strong and sure light is never overcome by darkness. May it be so in this our time.

Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, in your mercy and grace you surprisingly said to us, “You are the light of the world.” May it be so in this our time.

Spirit of light and love, kindle in us fresh urgency to love and serve the human family, to be amazed by creation and to care for it well, to pursue justice and offer mercy, to rejoice in receiving and sharing grace.

In confidence and hope, we pray. Amen.

Hope Morgan Ward, UMC Council of Bishops

For me (Pete), just the time to relax from my usual madness as it's been half-term has been rejuvenating enough so I am ready to dive back in next week.

I have also advanced another year as of yesterday, so enjoyed a day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park with stops for kaka along the way!

Pray with us today.

God, who changes not, we trust in you for our todays and tomorrows. We pray for those with responsibility for making key decisions that might change the direction of world or local events. We pray for those affected by the decisions of others, but who feel powerless in the face of forces of change. We commend to you the decisions that have to be made in your Church, and those charged with making them. Take our gifts and talents, voices and musical worship, Lord, and use them we pray in the service of your kingdom. Amen.
