Yesterday was a truly special and humbling day as I was ordained in the Free Church of England.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who shared in this wonderful occasion. It was a great joy to meet many brothers and sisters in Christ for the very first time—people whom I had previously only known through Zoom meetings and conversations. What a blessing it was to finally gather together in person as one family in Christ.
Thank you to the Bishop, the clergy, and all those who travelled, attended, prayed, and celebrated with us. The fellowship, encouragement, and Christian unity made the day one that I will never forget.
A very special thank you goes to my wife, Maria, who spent the entire week painting, gardening, preparing, and working tirelessly behind the scenes. Her love, sacrifice, and support made so much of this possible.
Thank you to Heidi for painting the entrance of the chapel so beautifully.
Thank you to Nicky and Gary for their hard work in the garden, and to Angela for generously providing so many flowers that helped make the grounds look so welcoming and beautiful.
Thank you also to Frances, who helped Maria begin the gardening project and contributed greatly to preparing the chapel for this special day.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who provided food and cakes: Christopher, Pauline, Dorren, Mary, Nicky, and Maria. Your generosity and hospitality were a blessing to all who attended.
Thank you to my two Greek friends, Nikos and Eftyxis, for their practical help and support, and once again to Maria for helping set up the tables and ensuring everything was ready for our guests.
If I have unintentionally forgotten anyone, please know that your contribution was noticed and appreciated. This celebration was truly a team effort, and it reflected the love, unity, and servant-hearted spirit of Christ’s people working together.
Ordination is not the end of a journey but the beginning of a deeper commitment to serve Christ, His Church, and His people. I am humbled by the trust placed in me and grateful to God for His faithfulness throughout the years.
“To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:21)
With heartfelt gratitude,
Rev. Athanasios (Thanos) Velianitis

“Yesterday reminded me that ministry is never the work of one person. It is the work of God’s people serving together for His glory.”
