Today we celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We celebrate this great day nine months after she was immaculately conceived, on December 8th, in the womb of her mother St. Anne.

In todayโ€™s Gospel we are reminded of the great prophecy that Mary will fulfill:

Perhaps today we can ponder this great mystery.

How a human like Mary was given such an honour to be the God-bearer, and to have Jesus within her for nine months.

She became a tabernacle.

Coming from her Jesus would of course have looked like Mary and derived much from her.

We honour her today for her great faith and fedility to God's will.

Her yes, made redemption possible.

Her birth gave us all hope.

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Bishop Matthew Yitiereh from Yendi Diocese, Ghana. Over a cup of tea we discussed the work that we do and how we can support the Seminarians in his Diocese. He remembers with great fondness his time spent in Maynooth doing Post Graduate studies with our help.

We assured Bishop Matthew of our ongoing support and promised to keep him and his diocese in our prayers, as our members remain dedicated to praying for an increase in vocations to the priesthood both at home and across the world.

What a blessing and a privilege it was for Pat and I to be welcomed to Redemptoris Mater Seminary yesterday to spend time with Fr. Giuseppe and some of the Seminarians. We saw all the wonderful work that has been done, mostly by themselves and volunteers, to make it the home that it has become for so many Seminarians from around the world who work with the local Community, journeying with them where they find themselves at this moment as part of their training. It is a beautiful space especially the new Church which is breathtaking. We spent time in prayer with them before sharing a delicious lunch. It was a gentle reminder of what we ourselves are working for.

Thank you Fr. Giuseppe and everyone at Redemptoris Mater. We ask all members of our Society to continue praying for the seminarians.

Marian

โ€œIf there were one million families praying the Rosary every day, the entire world would be saved.โ€ โ€” St. Pius X

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Pius X, pope and saint of the Catholic Church.

Born Giuseppe Sarto in Italy in 1835, Pius X came from a humble family and eventually became pope in 1903. He is especially remembered for his desire to โ€œrestore all things in Christ,โ€ his promotion of frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist, and his deep concern for the spiritual life of ordinary Catholic families.

And like so many saints throughout Catholic history, St. Pius X understood the power of the Rosary.

St. Dominic, St. Louis de Montfort, St. Padre Pio, St. John Paul II, St. Thรฉrรจse of Lisieux and countless others turned again and again to this simple prayer.

Why?

Because the Rosary is ultimately about Jesus Christ. With Mary, we meditate on His Incarnation, ministry, Passion, Death and Resurrection.

Imagine what could happen if Catholic families reclaimed this prayer.

Not perfectly. Not necessarily all five decades every night at first. Just begin.

Turn off the television. Put down the phones. Gather your family and pray.

The renewal of the world might just begin with the renewal of prayer in our homes.

St. Pius X, pray for us. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ“ฟ
