A good lunch break read! 📖
An inspiring testimony from a young TikTok influencer who shares how discovering the love of Jesus transformed his life.
Well worth a few minutes of your time, and a great encouragement for young people facing the challenges of today's world. ❤️
Ged Armstrong, a social media influencer based in Northern Ireland, used to be known for his expensive lifestyle of wealth, fame and partying. Living in a penthouse and having expensive possessions was all he knew for a while.
In an interview with Premier Christianity, he recalls his days as ‘Mr. Popular’. When he was younger, he wasn’t very popular at school and didn’t have many friends. So, when he learned to use social media to market himself and make money, he began to discover what it was like being a ‘micro-celebrity’. He recalls being noticed and asked for pictures whenever he went partying at nightclubs.
However, these brand deals with famous companies like Red Bull and lavish lifestyle wasn’t all it was made out to be. Often, when he was alone, he would weep as he thought about the meaning and point to having all of this ‘good’ stuff. He knew in his heart that something was wrong.
Then, one day, a young woman invited him to church. For him, church was more of a cultural thing, as Northern Ireland has a strong Christian presence. But something about this church kept bringing him back. He broke down into tears many of the first few weeks he went.
“I discovered that when you accept Jesus into your heart, he changes your desires. You naturally begin to love what he loves and hate what he hates. It’s not something you get from following a book or believing in a religion. It’s about having that relationship.
I stopped going to the clubs the moment I got saved. I gave up thousands of pounds from club nights and deals with alcohol brands – not because it says so in the Bible, but because I knew in my heart I had to give it up.”
His online profile was built off of showing off nightclubs and his lifestyle. Now, he’s switched to begin to show the vulnerable and spiritual side of his life.
Ged wants to show people that this life with Jesus is so much better, and though his old followers are hateful towards his new content, he says that he will continue to post about God, “God’s desire to see his children saved is more powerful than my fear of receiving hate.”
