Pluscarden Abbey South Range Appeal

Pluscarden Abbey South Range Appeal The Pluscarden Abbey South Range Appeal has been launched to raise £10 million to complete the final phase of the restoration of the Abbey

The South Range Project
The new building will comprise:

• Accommodation for women on retreat
• A new refectory and kitchen for all the
resident guests and for occasional use
for public lectures and presentations
• The 4 current libraries will be combined
into one monastic library of over 40,000
books which will be available to the
general public
• Workshops and service area

This project w

ill require £10 million to complete. The fundraising strategy has 4 pillars:

Pillar 1 – Bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund

Pillar 2 – Donations from charities and private donors

Pillar 3 – Money raised from the 1230 Pilgrimage

Pillar 4 – Crowdfunding, (slates, etc)

The monks view this final restoration not simply as placing stone on stone, but “as giving a physical expression to the life of the Gospels in the form that we are called to live it, and in particular to the way we are to share what we have with all who come here”.

“MESSIAH FOR ALL”
IN AID OF THE NEW FEMALE RETREAT AT
PLUSCARDEN ABBEY
28 years ago, on 21 May 1994 a hugely successful
“Messiah for All”, in aid of a new Male retreat at
Pluscarden Abbey, took place. This will be repeated
on exactly the same day this year in aid of the new
Female retreat. In simple terms you have to learn the
music at home and turn up on the day where there
will be two rehearsals followed by a full blown concert
with an audience! The rehearsals and concert will be
led by Phoebe Csenki from Gordonstoun. Should you
wish to take part in this fun project, either singing or
as part of the orchestra (or indeed volunteering to
lead the orchestra), please get in touch with David
Broadfoot at [email protected] and he will
send you a proforma to fill in with all your details and
particular talent. In addition, we need one or two
sponsors to produce programmes etc so if you know
of anyone willing to help please do let me know

A nice shoutout on Instagram from The British Pilgrimage Trust: "We know that people choose to make pilgrimage for many reasons, but one powerful drive for setting out on a route is to follow in the footsteps of those who have walked before us. We also know, from guiding pilgrimages with many individuals who have never met before, of the mysterious magic that can work its way into a group of strangers when they decill de to walk together with a shared destination in mind. We can’t wait to read this book."

PILGRIMAGE for EIGHT is a memoir of that modern-day pilgrimage, told through a histo...
