“To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” — Psalm 27:4

The Hebrew word for “gaze” is chazah — meaning to behold attentively, to contemplate deeply, or to fix your eyes upon something with wonder.

We become what we behold. What captures our attention eventually shapes our hearts.

In a distracted world, perhaps our greatest need is a renewed fascination with Jesus.

MONDAY MUSE;

So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Often in life, we pass places without truly seeing them. For years, I drove past the sign for Gwenapp Pit (South West of England), assuming there would always be another opportunity to stop. A few weeks ago, with time to spare on a sunny day in Cornwall, curiosity finally led me there.

What I found was not noise or crowds, but stillness. The quiet beauty of the grassed concentric circles, preserved with such care, carried a deep sense of history and purpose. Once, thousands gathered there to hear John Wesley preach messages of faith and renewal. Standing in that silence created a powerful connection between past and present.

More importantly, it gave me space to breathe, pray, and reflect. In solitude, distractions fade and peace becomes clearer. It reminded me that life’s greatest moments are often found in quiet places we almost overlook. Sometimes, the detours we hesitate to take are exactly what we need.
