Sovereign Grace explain that their recently released song ‘Help Us Love You, Lord’ is “a prayer of hope that reaches out to God in the midst of our fight against worldliness, unbelief, and sorrow. Our prayer isn't simply to be free of them, but rather to fully pursue what we were created to do in light of what Jesus accomplished for us at the cross: love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. It's a prayer that will only fully be answered when we see our Savior face to face. Until then, we will continue to pray help us love You, Lord."

We have so many reasons to give thanks to and praise our wonderful Saviour. Matt Redman reminds us that He is always worthy: “Praise God, O my soul, when the blessing flow. Praise God, O my soul, when it seems they don’t - still we sing this song…” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pTe6gJYN88 –

City Alight help us to remember that God is with us in the valley as well as on the mountaintop: “When the path that I feared is the way He has set and I long to give in and retreat, still to Jesus I hold as I face every step for the Lord He will give me His peace.” Let us keep our eyes fixed on our wonderful Prince of Peace who is worthy of all our praise.

This powerful song of praise reminds us afresh how amazing God’s grace truly is - “What led a God to wanna save a world in wild rebellion? What kept you hanging on the cross? Nothing but your love.” What is our only reasonable response? “Let my soul arise, let my heart awake and let these empty lungs overflow with praise” because “I found all the life I need in a hollow grave.”

EMU Music in their praise song “Just as He said” remind us how all that our Lord Jesus promised, He actually delivered. The wonderful truth of the cross is that “when we were far away, searching for truth in vain, our God in mercy came to save.” Three days later, the tomb was empty, sin and death were defeated forever: “Raised to life, the battle won.”

Elsewhere, Matt Redman explains how this song was conceived in a hospital, waiting to hear news about his daughter who was receiving treatment. As followers of Jesus, we can testify to how God often feels especially close in challenging time and sing wholeheartedly: “Because You give and You give so lavishly and Your grace is not even halfway empty! My cup overflows I have all that I need - still Your grace is not even halfway empty!”

Go to the Giver of every good and perfect gift who longs to bless you.

With students across Scotland starting a new academic year - many leaving home for the first time - please remember the work of UCCF: The Christian Unions. The vision is simple: for students to delight in Jesus and display Him together, declaring the Good News that He is the one true, solid foundation to build on in a world of shifting sands.

Christian Unions are groups of students from a range of local churches who join together to help everyone at uni engage with the life-changing message of Jesus.
