Today we had a BBQ at St Peter’s RC Parish Church to spend some time together with Fr Kenneth and Fr Daniel and all the parishioners who stopped for something to eat and drink. Great occasion to catch up with each other after Holy Mass.

A very beautiful and touching ceremony of consecration and dedication of our new Sanctuary and Altar last night (20th June 2026) at St Peter's RC Parish Church, Morningside.
Archbishop Leo Cushley blessed us all, the sanctuary and the altar with holy water. The the stonemason sealed relics of St Ignatius of Antioch and St Sebastian in the altar top. Following that the archbishop anointed the altar with Chrism oil and used sacred fire and incense and recited the consecration prayers. All was embedded within Holy Mass presided by the archbishop.
The whole ceremony was accompanied by readings by Canon Rushton and Fr Bennett of the Christ Church (Morningside) Parish and a beautiful choir of voices from our parishioners and the parishioners of Christ Church, led by wonderful Sophie Bennett.
Once in a life time ceremony that we might not be so lucky to live through and pray for together again.
A real down pouring of the Holy Spirit on all of us!

About Pope Leo XIV’s Magnifica Humanitas, His first encyclical on Social doctrine in our times and his concerns about AI.

The Bishops of Scotland warmly welcome Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity), the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, as a timely and insightful contribution to one of the defining questions of our age. As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes human life, this important document calls us to place the dignity of the human person at the heart of every technological advance.

We encourage the faithful, our schools and parish communities to read, study and pray with this landmark text.

To support this, the Office of Communications and Evangelisation will soon publish a parish study guide and other resources for small groups and parish use, helping communities to reflect more deeply on the opportunities and challenges of new technologies and their impact on human life.

Bishop John Keenan
President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland

God bless Pope Leo XIV ongoing work as Christ’s vicar on earth! 🙏🙏❤️❤️

As of today, Pope Leo has been the head of our Church for one year.

With calm authority, he has spoken out with great moral clarity on issues of migration, climate change, extreme poverty and the pursuit of world peace.

In all that he has done and said, the Pope has cemented himself as the conscience of the world.

It’s 10 Days to our “Edinburgh Festival of Life” including SPUC’s Pro-Life Chain on Saturday, 25th April

The Chain is the best way to witness to THOUSANDS of local people and an opportunity to pray, and celebrate the goodness of life.

We’ll start at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, Lauriston, EH3 9DJ with a rosary led by Archbishop Cushley. Prayer is a vital part of this work, particularly as the Election looms in May. We’ll also give thanks for the success of our campaign to oppose assisted su***de in Scotland.

At 11am we’ll be at Lothian Road (by Sheraton Hotel) with our “Proud to be Pro-Life” message. And then refreshments (and a pint..) afterwards…

Do come for some, part or even all of the day. It’s a great gathering of the Pro-Life Clan in Scotland!
