God said this to offer comfort during difficult times to Israelites exiled in Babylon. It's a promise He offers to us too. We can trust Him to provide comfort and hope even when the future seems uncertain.

“Christians from other churches are often surprised by the fact that we still hold Sunday evening meetings. Some are frankly baffled. ‘Why on earth would you want to do that? What are they for?’

Well, I’m so glad that was the rhythm into which my life fell from my earliest childhood: six days for our work, one day for the worship of God. It’s been the hem on the garment of my life ever since, keeping it from unravelling. Setting aside one day for God is not a painful duty. It’s a joyful privilege.

Well, I expect most of the folk who read this article will be at a church service next Sunday morning. And you’ll be glad to be there. But why limit yourself to one dose of delight?

Sweet is the work, my God, my King, to praise thy name, give thanks, and sing;
to tell thy love by morning light, and talk of all thy truth at night…” - Stephen Rees is pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Stockport

Can you remember the first time you went to church? I can’t. My parents took me to church when I was a baby. They took me and my older sister every week. And then when my younger brother came along, they took all three of us. Morning and evening.
