Prayers for the elections tomorrow
A Prayer for the Scottish Government elections on 7 May by the Rev Alasdair M. MacLeod, Moderator of the 2025 General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland 🙏
Living Lord Jesus, whether it is your teaching about our words, ‘Let your yes be yes, and your no, no' (Matthew 5v37), or teaching us about our actions, ‘Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will be dishonest with much' (Luke 16:10) we learn that integrity matters to you.
Despite your words being twisted and your actions misunderstood, you lived the perfect life of integrity, practising what you preach – even praying at the start of your crucifixion, ‘Father, forgive them for they know not what they do'.
Sovereign Lord Jesus, your word teaches us that you ‘test the heart and are pleased with integrity' (1 Chron 29v17).
We long to be people of integrity, and we long to be ruled by people of integrity.
We are reminded ‘whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out' (Proverbs 10:9).
As we face another election and look for candidates of evident integrity to vote for, may your Holy Spirit shape us to be people of integrity.
We pray in Jesus' precious name,
Amen.
