Today the Moderator of the General Assembly led one of the prayers at the 2025 National Prayer Breakfast for Scotland in Edinburgh.
Rt Rev Rosie Frew focused on the theme ‘justice’ and prayed for the Church of Jesus Christ at home and abroad, and the impact of the Gospel.
She said: -
‘And God will delight when we are creators of justice, justice and joy.’
These are the words of Shirley Erena Murray, from her hymn For everyone born a place at the table.
Let us pray
Loving God,
The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news
of welcome,
acceptance,
forgiveness,
and second chances.
Good news of love
that is wide and long and high and deep.
We thank you for the extravagance of your love.
We pray for the Church of Jesus Christ in this land and beyond -
that our message,
will be one of extravagant love.
That we may demonstrate
in our words and in our actions,
‘for everyone born a place at the table’.
We pray for the Church of Jesus Christ in this land and beyond -
that in the life of our world
we may seek justice,
that place at the table,
that place of respect,
for our neighbours both nearby and far away.
We pray that all voices may be heard,
all concerns understood,
all opinions valued,
that dignity may be given to
young and old, healthy and sick,
rich and poor, free and oppressed.
We pray
that all voices may be heard.
Those yearning for peace and not war,
those yearning for love and not hate,
those yearning for fairness and not inequality,
those yearning for comfort and not pain.
We pray that the people of our land, of our world,
will hear and be open to the church’s message of love and possibility,
will speak out, will take action.
We pray that everyone will experience justice,
will know joy.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
