The Chapel in the fog...

You want to see something very old in Old Edinburgh? No problem. This is the view looking through the fog, down into the Cowgate! To the left is the Magdalen Chapel (look closely, you'll see the clock and the fog under the light is on the chapel)...that dates back to 1541! Dead ahead is the foot of Candlemaker Row and round the corner beyond, into the haar is the Grassmarket. Into the orange hue glow is Greyfriars Kirk and to the left (into said orangey glow would ultimately take you towards Heriots).

This is a full colour shot. THAT, is the haar just draining the colour from the scene like a chokehold on the very streets themselves. I'll conclude my shots of the fog and haar tomorrow with a montage of all the other foggy shots together. If you like the haar...you'll love this.

Til then, the view into the Cowgate from on high last Thursday. Prints available here https://www.colinmyers.com/product/cowgate-fog/

A view we don’t always see!

Hot and moist today! We have climbed to the gallery, despite our vertigo, and opened the window for air and to check on our quietest neighbours at Greyfriars...

This was why the Magdalen Chapel needed air raid insurance in the First World War

Today (2 April) in 1916, at 10 minutes to midnight a German Zeppelin dropped a bomb on a bonded warehouse in Leith; at midnight one fell in East Claremont Street, later another fell in Lauriston Place and one hit George Watson's College; attempts to hit the castle failed but caused extensive dmamge in the Grassmarket. The picture is of people examining the damage done in the Grassmarket. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/armistice-100-when-zeppelin-air-raids-brought-terror-to-edinburgh-1-4825419
