What a wonderful celebration this morning. St Mark's has been used for worship and has served the people of Portobello for 200 years. The building has changed much in those years, the traditions and ways of living and worshipping have changed, but people are people - we still come with our joys and our challenges and offer prayer and praise to God and we still seek to be a place for faith, discovery, hope and challenge.
Many thanks to all who made today so special - our wonderful musicians, those who catered so well for us, the amazing cake, flowers ... and those who took part in the celebrations in so many different ways. We used a glass bowl donated to the church in 1827 (and it survived!)
We were also delighted that Bishop Dagmar joined us for the first time since she came to the Edinburgh Diocese. She encouraged us as we look forward to the next 200 years, taking the theme of the small Mustard Seed and it's growth into a place of shelter. Thank you!
The church was first used for worship in 1926, but wasn't consecrated until 1828 ... so two years of celebrations.

We’re welcoming Bishop Dagmar this morning to help us celebrate our 200th anniversary!

We've had a wonderful response from local artists preparing to exhibit in our Art Exhibition this year. And this year we are delighted to also be hosting the Craigmillar Art Group and the Craigmillar Tapestries during the weekend of 11-13 September. Do put the date in your diary to come and see the art.
Refreshments will be available as well!

Have you walked through our garden recently?
If you look carefully you will spot the first of the sunflowers our Children's Church planted a few weeks ago - and it looks like another is on the way ... as well as being able to guess the celebrations we're about to start at St Mark's .... I wonder how long the congregation of St Mark's has been part of Portobello - any guesses?

The Thursday Hub is still on a break, but will return next Thursday 3rd September 10am - 12pm.
