This got a mention at Evensong yesterday. Rogation Sunday and Rogationtide are far older than the Season of Creation but, as Creatin Season does, they remind us of our dependence on God and the Earth he has made us Stewards of for food, water shelter and life. Over the next day or two, let us pray for all farmers and those involved in agriculture and ask for the blessing of good weather and a fruitful growing season. And for the work of Christian Aid in combating hunger and famine in our world.

Marvellous news for one of the 3 charities we support as a congregation. The Priest in Charge was lucky enough to tour this excellent facility at the invitation of the Bethany Trust recently and see the good work they do at 1st hand.

It's Election Day. We offer our prayers for all the candidates, officials and voters who are participating in this significant event in the life of this nation. May the Spirit of God's Wisdom guide them today and always.

Scotland goes to the polls today in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.

The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, The Most Rev Mark Strange, reminds people to exercise their democratic right by using their vote to help shape the country’s future.

“Across Scotland today, people are making their way to polling stations as we prepare to choose a new group of MSPs who will serve our communities and carry significant responsibilities on our behalf,” said the Primus.

“Mindful of this moment, and remembering with gratitude those who struggled so that we might share in the right to vote, we are called to treat this responsibility with reverence and care.

“Today we hold in our prayers all who are offering themselves for election, and all who are giving their time and skill to ensure the election is conducted well. We are thankful that we live in a country where every person has a voice in shaping our common life. Election day is a gift, and one to be used wisely.”

Polling stations are open until 10pm.

It's our turn to be prayed for again! One of the ways ways in which we deepen our Communion with one another in the Diocese is by praying for each charge regularly in a Diocesan Cycle of prayer. We often reference this in our biddings and intercessions during the Eucharist or at Evensong. Never forget we are part of something bigger, not just a small congregation in isolation.

We encourage the whole Diocese to pray together each day: for and with each other.

Today we pray for Bishop Mark, Bishop-Elect Dagmar and St Vincent's Chapel, Stockbridge: John, Michael, William, the vestry, and the congregation. We also pray for a few of their activities and events: the Invincibles social group; the annual Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts; and all the community-, music- and art-based events that take place in the Undercroft.

A marvellous collect, particularly apt as we approach and prepare to participate in an Election. May God guide and direct all candidates and voters in the ways of truth, justice and peace.

The Fourth Sunday after Easter.

In today’s offering of Collects, Epistles and Gospels from the Prayer Book, we have not only many people’s favourite collect, but also the most wonderful reminder from Saint James of the nature of God...

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” - St James 1.17

“Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1.21).

We remembered Philip and James yesterday at our 11am Eucharist. We thank God for the "quiet saints" of our day who steadily build up the life of Christ's kingdom when no one is looking.
