The Christian Community - Edinburgh

The Christian Community - Edinburgh The Christian Community was established in 1922 as a renewed form of sacramental Christianity appropr It is confidential and held on request.

The Christian Community in Edinburgh belongs to the international movement for the renewal of religious life in which seven sacraments are celebrated in new forms relevant for today. These sacraments are Christ's way of speaking to us and of our joining in His deed in our lives. Through them He nourishes and supports our earthly existence. All who come will find a community striving to cultivate a

n environment of free enquiry in harmony with deep devotion. Conversations with one of the priests help to prepare for the further step into Membership, and to clarify this mature, free decision and its importance for the future. The Act of Consecration of Man is the renewal of the archetype of early Christian worship which includes bread and wine. Its unusual name implies that the ultimate goal of our lives is to become a true human being through Christ. Progressing through the festivals of the year involves our souls in an evolving relationship to Him through the changing prayers and colours of the service. The Sacramental Consultation supports individual efforts to take more responsibility for life and opens up the way to the healing power of Christ. Conversations with a priest are of course always possible without this sacrament.

LATEST! March 27. Our doors of course are closed. The priest continues quiet services at regular hours and all are invited to take part from home by lighting a candle and inwardly connecting to the service, picturing the altar, reading the Gospel of the week etc.
If you would like to contact the priest or receive weekly mailing please ring 0131 229 4514 or email: [email protected]
Blessings to all! We will find gifts in this remarkable time and can grow closer to the spiritual world and to our fellow humans as well as the earth itself.

Our Story

The first resident priest of our congregation, Adam Bittleston, was sent to Edinburgh in 1949. In 1963 the congregation moved to its current home at 21 Napier Road in Merchiston.

As of September 2018, the congregation is served by two full-time priests, Peter Holman and Paul Newton, with support from three retired colleagues Bill Boyd, Karin Medboe and Michael Jones.

The Sunday Service for Children is celebrated as an age-appropriate service at the altar for children aged 7-14.
