Seecos at Liberton Kirk Liberton Kirk, the centre of a lively congregation of the Church of Scotland, is prominently situated on a hill in the south of Edinburgh

At Liberton, the emphasis is not on any particular group, but on the needs of the whole of God's family. Facilities are made available for all age groups. Child and youth activities in worship range from a "baby-friendly" church building or a creche for the very young, through Sunday Club for those between four and eleven to Crazy Crosses for those up to age eighteen. Beyond this we meet in all ag

e and age specific house groups, evening and afternoon Guilds, and a Thursday Senior's club. We also run regular Alpha courses. We have family services, outings and parties where the entire church family meets to worship or enjoy together. In addition, the Kirk Centre is the meeting place for many different organisations. We like to think that no age is ignored and that all are made welcome in our community. Sunday services are well-attended and lively. They are normally held at 9.30am and 11.00am in the Kirk - 10.30am in the summer months. Evening worship is held at 6.30pm on most Sundays. These evening get-togethers cover several different styles of worship or reflection and are always informal.

Rt Rev Gordon Kennedy, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, has shared a prayer in response to the deadly flash floods which devastated parts of Nepal and Tibet earlier this week.

The Church of Scotland has well established links with Nepal, opening its first mission station in the region in the 1870s, and later as one of the founders of the inter-denominational United Mission to Nepal (UMN) in 1954.

Mr Kennedy said:
God of grace and mercy,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
We depend upon your grace,
We plead for your mercy.

Be quickly at work for the people of Nepal.

Following the tragic flooding in Nepal,
We pray for all who are bereaved,
that they will know your comfort.
We pray for all who are injured,
that they will know your healing.
We pray for all who have lost homes and whole communities,
that they will be upheld in your strong hands.

We pray for all those working to provide aid for those in need,
Clean water and sustaining food,
Safe shelter and warm clothing,
A hand to hold and someone to cry with.

Be with all those agencies working to support and care for all who are in need.

Give us generous hearts to give what we can,
Give us praying hearts to hold the people of Nepal before you,
Give us hearts broken with your love for your people.

God of grace and mercy,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Be powerfully at work in Nepal,
Do your sovereign work of grace and mercy,
We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

United Mission to Nepal is responding to the crisis by working with partner agencies to provide essential food and other urgently needed supplies to families in the badly affected Dhading and Rasuwa Districts.

UMN initially hopes to support some 1,000 families affected by the disaster.

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
That person will be like a bush (stunted shrubs) in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year (long months) of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
