‘Therefore I Have Hope’, our third Dominican conference which took place last weekend, 13–14 June 2024, at New College. It was another joyous occasion that brought our Dominican family from across the UK together once again!

On Friday, Fr Nicholas Crowe OP, (Prior Provincial) opened the conference with a talk titled “Finding Hope in My Dominican Family.” He shared the wonderful news that eight new men have been accepted into the English Dominican novitiate, beginning in September 2025. A fundraising appeal is currently underway to support their formation: (https://www.english.op.org/support-us/st-dominics-formation-fund/) A great opportunity to contribute to the future of the Order!

Saturday featured seven passionate speakers who explored the theme of hope in areas of life where it is often tested — including prison, poverty, climate change, ageing, and even through reflections on unfinished music. We also looked to two inspiring saints who radiated hope in their own times: St Catherine of Siena and St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein).

What a powerful and hope-filled series of talks this year!

Thank you to everyone who attended and so generously supported the event!

God’s Mercy and Yours, our second Dominican conference took place this weekend 28-29 June 2024 at New College. What a joyous occasion bringing our Dominican family together again!

On Friday, we had the first screening of ‘Becoming Dominic’, a documentary film capturing the making our St Dominic statue, and capturing the life of our Dominican community at St Albert’s in Edinburgh.

On Saturday, all six speakers spoke passionately of God’s mercy and love and how they experience this through their Dominican vocations and ministry as priests, sisters and laity. What an inspiring series of talks!

Thanks to those who joined and generously donated!

Yesterday on the Feast of the exaltation of the Cross our statue of St Dominic was installed by staff from Powderhall Bronze and assisted by Iain Simpson of Graeme Browne Stonemasons. Kenny Hunter directed what was a fairly complicated procedure. It was a very moving experience. When he was bolted into the ground and as the glue was drying in the concrete below we the friars stood beside him and sang our own prayer to our Holy Father St Dominic - the O lumen. I will post the o Lumen video separately. He looks great. See for yourself!
