Across rural Cambodia, Bible-based literacy classes are quietly transforming lives, reaching around 6,000 people every year, children, parents and grandparents who once believed they would be “ignorant forever.”
These simple gatherings in church halls, wooden huts or under trees use Scripture to teach reading, so that for many learners the very first sentence they ever read comes from the Bible. As people sound out letters, then words, then whole verses, they not only gain the practical skill of literacy but also discover dignity, confidence and the deep assurance of being seen, valued and loved by God.
Your support for this literacy programme helps break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty, strengthens growing churches and opens the way for thousands to read God’s Word for themselves and share it with others. Donate Now https://bible.scot/seen-valuable-loved

Several of the SBS team were privileged to attend the celebration of 80 years of United Bible Societies Fellowship. The event launched an important declaration, ensuring, 'The Bible for Tomorrow: A Global Commitment to Future Christian Generations.'

Dirk Gevers, Secretary General of United Bible Societies, said: “As we mark 80 years of shared service, we give thanks for God’s faithfulness and for the countless people who have made the Bible available across languages, cultures, and generations since the beginning of the 19th century when our global Bible movement started. This Declaration is not only a reflection on our past; it is a vision casting for the future. We believe the Bible continues to offer hope, truth, and direction for young people and for all who seek meaning in a complex world. Together with churches and partners around the world, we dedicate ourselves anew to the vision entrusted to us: the Bible for everyone.”

In Cambodia, around 73.1% of people live in rural areas where the education gap is stark, and whole families grow up struggling to read—limiting not only their future prospects but also their ability to engage with the Bible. After completing our Bible-based literacy classes, learners receive their own Bible so they can continue reading, understanding and sharing God’s Word for themselves.
With only about 1.5% of Cambodians currently owning or accessing a Bible, and an immediate need for 50,000–100,000 more to meet the requests of churches and new Christians, your support can help bridge this gap—bringing both literacy and Scripture into the hands of those still waiting. Will you give today to help change a life?
