⛪️Church History⛪️

Reid Memorial Hub and Blackford and Grange Church are blessed to have their buildings adorned with gorgeous art, particularly in the form of stained glass windows.

There are 24 windows in Blackford & Grange Church, and all but one are stained glass. Many of these were manufactured by Ballantine and Gardiner, who were a popular company throughout Great Britain. Ballantine also created stained glass windows in Reid Memorial Hub.

Many of the earlier designs were dedicated to family members, with windows displaying memorial texts. For example, on the north wall at the west end, there is a memorial window for the Morham family, who were residents of Lauder Road. Meanwhile, the east wall northside is a memorial to Very Rev Dr David Paul, the minister from 1896-1919, as well as a botanist and Fellow of the Linnaean Society. The memorial window thus bears the text "Consider the Lilies". This was constructed by Baillie & Telfer, and contains 1,200 pieces of glass.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find much information about the windows at Reid Memorial Hub. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated! Additionally, there are very few high quality photos available online of the stained glass windows in both buildings, so if there are any in storage or anyone who would be keen to do some photography, please send the page a message!

So excited to see this back again!

We are thrilled to announce that our community lunch, Butterflies Plus, will be back on every Tuesday starting next week (the 1st of September).

For our newcomers, each Tuesday at 12:30 we serve two courses made fresh on site from £10. The meals change each week so you always get something new. For three weeks, there will be a soup and a main course, and every fourth week a dessert is served.

Everyone is welcome, whether you are a student looking for a good bite or some friends looking to catch up!

Please book in advance the Friday before, which you can do by phoning 0131 447 3459 between 10am-2pm, or by emailing [email protected]. When booking please inform us of any dietary restrictions. No deposit is required, as you simply pay on the day. If you do not book, we cannot guarantee you a space. Reservations are given priority, and whether any last minute shows can be served is only at the kitchen's disclosure, so please be sure to get in touch as it gets super busy!

We can't wait to see you there!🦋

🐾PET POSTS🐾

Today's submission is from our church administrator, Isobel Donald, with Paws the cat, or Paws Poo!

Paws will be 7 in October. Though he may run away from strangers, he adores his family. In true kitty fashion, he also loves tuna and lying in the sun. Thank you Isobel for submitting your gorgeous fluffy boy!

If you would like your pet to be featured in this series, please send us a photo in the comments or private messages, along with their name, age, favourite treats, and funny quirk or memory!

⛪️CHURCH HISTORY⛪️

A Church mission statement identifies what the congregation aims to do, helping to outline a unified goal and purpose that is a unique contribution to the wider Church body. Our statement is "serving the community and welcoming all", with specific goals outlined for further clarity. Blackford and Grange's statement reaffirms the importance of our community, of patience, and of kindness. What a beautiful mission to be a part of!

Unfortunately I couldn't find any of the previous congregation mission statements, so if anyone knows of any, please let me know what it is!
