The Vigil Mass of Pentecost is unlike a usual Saturday evening Mass. This beautiful and rarely celebrated liturgy includes an extended series of readings that lead us through salvation history โ€” reflecting on the Resurrection, the Ascension of the Lord, and the promised descent of the Holy Spirit.

โ–ช๏ธWe celebrate the Vigil of the Solemnity of Pentecost this Saturday, 23 May, at 6:00pm. Come, Holy Spirit!

On 17 August the Cathedral's Schola Cantorum choir will present a special concert inspired by Timothy Schmlazโ€™s powerful 'Homeless Jesus' sculpture, which has recently been installed outside St Maryโ€™s Catholic Cathedral.

Part of Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts, the evening will contemplate homelessness and marginalisation through a programme of breathtaking choral music that speaks of mercy, compassion, and hope.

The evening will include a live performance of Gavin Bryarsโ€™ iconic composition โ€œJesusโ€™ Blood Never Failed Me Yetโ€, which is built around a haunting loop of an unknown homeless man singing an improvised refrain.

The concert will also form part of a documentary film, which the Schola Cantorum is currently producing in partnership with Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts, and in collaboration with the Grassmarket Community Project, the Bethany Christian Trust, and St Catherineโ€™s Convent of Mercy at Lauriston.
Tickets are ยฃ15 (ยฃ10 child) โ€” booking link in comments.
