Why is it so easy to let the crowd dictate how we live?

Looking back at our first message of June from 1 Samuel 8, we unpacked what happens when we let comparison dictate our choices. Israel was facing a major leadership breakdown because Samuel’s sons were corrupt judges. Instead of trusting God to fix it, the people panicked and demanded a human king, completely obsessed with looking “like all the other nations”.

But God exposed the real issue. They weren’t just looking for a new leader, they were rejecting Him as their King. They traded their unique, God-given identity for the sake of fitting in.

When we value the world’s approval more than dependency on God, we lose the very thing that makes us distinct. His plan for us isn’t conformity, it’s holiness.

❓Are we allowing God’s voice to shape our lives, or are we letting the world around us determine who we become?

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

Last Sunday’s preaching cut straight to the core of how we handle the things God gives us. Moving away from a comfortable mindset, the message from 1 Samuel 1:21–28 challenged us to examine our habits of stewardship. True worship is far more than just managing resources, it requires a completely surrendered heart.

Using Hannah’s life as the standard, the message unpacked how she transformed the joy of an answered prayer into a lifetime of sacrifice. She didn’t walk away from her promise. Instead, she willingly returned her greatest blessing back to the Lord, proving that her faith was entirely separate from the cultural compromises around her.

The ultimate takeaway was clear: God values immediate, consistent obedience over outward religious routines.

Reflections from last Sunday’s service:

We dove into 1 Samuel 4–6, looking at what happens when we value the appearance of faith more than actual obedience to God. Israel brought the Ark of the Covenant into battle at Ebenezer, treating a holy object like a good luck charm. They wanted God’s protection, but not His authority.

We were reminded that real proof of the Holy Spirit at work is transformation, not just religious routine. God is completely unmatched, holy, and sovereign. He will not be a backup plan.

He has no equal. He has no substitute.

Do not let fear interfere 🛑

Last Sunday, we looked at 1 Samuel 13, where King Saul faced a critical situation. With a massive army advancing and his own troops scattering and quaking with fear, he gave in to pressure. Instead of waiting on God’s timing, fear led him to do the wrong thing and offer the sacrifice himself.

We all face times of testing where we are tempted to give in to fear. When problems seem overwhelming, everyone around us is responding in fear, or God doesn’t deliver us right away, it can be easy to panic.

But it is foolish to let go of God and His Word in our time of need. As Proverbs 29:25 reminds us, “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Don’t try to justify wrong actions. Even if you stumble, remember that a righteous man rises again.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power!
