Pope's funeral to take place on Saturday

The meeting of cardinals at the Vatican has now provided an update on plans for the pope's funeral.

They have confirmed it will take place on Saturday 27 April, at 9am (UK time).

This will also begin the first of nine days of mourning.

"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." — John F. Kennedy

Life is an ever-turning wheel, guided by unseen forces and the ceaseless flow of time. This poignant reflection by John F. Kennedy reminds us that clinging too tightly to what was or what is can blind us to the possibilities ahead. In a world rich with spiritual meaning and unseen energy, embracing change is not only necessary but sacred. It is through releasing the past and accepting the unfolding present that we awaken to the limitless potential of our spiritual journey.

This message speaks to the heart of Spiritualism — the belief in life beyond the physical, in growth beyond loss, and in wisdom gained through embracing life’s inevitable transitions.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.

We extend our thoughts at this time.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has died, the Vatican said in a video statement on Monday, ending an often turbulent reign marked by division and tension as he sought to overhaul the hidebound institution.
He was 88, and had recently survived a serious bout of double pneumonia.

"At 7:35 this morning the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father."

Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected pope on March 13, 2013, surprising many Church watchers who had seen the Argentine cleric, known for his concern for the poor, as an outsider.
He sought to project simplicity into the grand role and never took possession of the ornate papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace used by his predecessors, saying he preferred to live in a community setting.

We send thoughts and prayers at this time.

God Bless

Synopsis:

This profound quote by Rumi emphasizes the idea that our struggles and pain can serve as gateways to deeper understanding and spiritual enlightenment. Rather than avoiding or ignoring our wounds, we are encouraged to embrace them, as they often lead to personal growth and illumination. The transformative power of suffering can uncover strengths and insights that might have otherwise remained hidden, reminding us that healing is a vital part of the spiritual journey.

*Easter Sunday: A Spiritualist Reflection**

Easter Sunday symbolizes the triumph of renewal and hope, embodying the essence of transformation within each of us. From a Spiritualist perspective, this sacred day invites us to reflect on the deeper meanings of life, growth, and the interconnectedness of all spirits. It serves as a powerful reminder that, much like the cycle of nature, we too have the capacity to rise above our challenges and embrace a higher state of consciousness.

As the flowers bloom and the world awakens, we are called to recognise the infinite potential within ourselves. In the words of Christopher Pelham-Wright, "Just as the spirit of renewal awakens in the blooming of spring, Easter invites us to celebrate the infinite potential within us all. It is a sacred reminder that through transformation, we can rise above our trials and embrace the light of love and unity." Through this lens, Easter becomes more than just a celebration; it is a spiritual journey that encourages us to let go of the past, embrace transformation, and connect with the divine presence in ourselves and others.

Let us honor this day as a time for reflection, rejuvenation, and a renewed commitment to living our lives in alignment with love, compassion, and spiritual growth.

“We need to recognise that there are different ways in which to approach the many faceted dimensions of spirituality and be open to numerous areas that can lead us to healthier states of spiritual being and embrace the all-ness of what eternal life is about.”

"Between the sorrow of Good Friday and the hope of Easter Sunday lies the quiet pause of Easter Saturday — a space where the soul listens, where unseen hands offer comfort, and where Spirit reminds us that even in our darkest silence, we are never alone."
- Christopher Pelham-Wright

Synopsis (from a Spiritualist view point)

Easter Saturday, often overlooked in the Christian calendar, holds a sacred stillness — a waiting space between loss and rebirth. From a Spiritualist perspective, this is a deeply meaningful moment. It symbolises the soul's passage through grief, uncertainty, and unseen transitions. While the world fell silent after the crucifixion, the Spirit world was at work, preparing for renewal.

Spiritualists believe that life continues beyond physical death, and in this pause of Easter Saturday, it is a reminder that when the physical seems lost, the spiritual remains ever-present. Loved ones in Spirit draw close in times of sorrow, offering reassurance through signs, dreams, and a sense of inner peace. It’s a sacred time to be still, to listen to the whispers of those who have passed, and to trust in the promise of new beginnings — not just in religious doctrine, but in the continual cycle of life, death, and Spirit rebirth.

Closing thought:

"Easter Saturday teaches us that when the world is quiet, the Spirit world speaks the loudest." - Christopher Pelham-Wright

“The cross is not the end, but the doorway through which the soul passes into the light of eternal life.” — Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Synopsis:

Good Friday is a sacred day observed by Christians worldwide to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ — a moment of profound sacrifice, compassion, and ultimate love. Through an interfaith lens, Good Friday can also be embraced as a universal reflection on human suffering, forgiveness, and spiritual awakening.

In the spirit of Spiritualism, Good Friday serves as a time to honour the eternal nature of the soul, affirming that life continues beyond physical death. It invites people of all faiths and beliefs to connect with the divine, their ancestors, and the spirit world — seeking comfort, wisdom, and healing.

By embracing the essence of sacrifice and unconditional love that Good Friday represents, we open our hearts to peace, unity, and hope. It is a day not only of mourning but of spiritual renewal, reminding us that from suffering can come light, and from endings, new beginnings.

When we show our respect for other living things, they respond with respect for us." — Arapaho Proverb

Synopsis for Maundy Thursday:
On Maundy Thursday, a day rooted in humility, service, and love, this Arapaho wisdom reminds us that true respect transcends boundaries — whether of faith, culture, or species. Spirituality flourishes where respect resides, creating bridges between beliefs and nurturing interfaith harmony.

Official Statement on the Rights of Women and the Supreme Court’s Decision

In light of yesterdays ruling by the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, we wish to reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the rights, dignity, and equality of all women. The protection and advancement of women’s rights remain fundamental to a just and fair society.

We further recognise that the term 'woman' encompasses the lived experiences of both cisgender and transgender women. It is essential that in all discussions of rights, dignity, and protection, we extend our unwavering support to trans women, acknowledging both the unique challenges they face and their rightful place within the wider community of women.

As a society, it is our moral responsibility to ensure that every woman is treated with respect, kindness, and compassion. Differences in identity must never be a cause for division but rather a call for greater empathy and solidarity.

We stand united in the belief that equality is not a finite resource, and that the extension of dignity and rights to one group does not diminish those of another. Together, let us work to build a culture where all women — regardless of background or identity — are valued, protected, and empowered.
