We were most honoured to be visited on Sunday by the Bishop of Birmingham. Bishop Michael preached a very good sermon on the Gospel reading (Luke 2:41-52) about the finding of Christ in the Temple, and celebrated the 10.30am High Mass. At the end of the Mass he blessed Epiphany chalk for people to take home and inscribe the blessing of the Kings above their doors.

He and Mother Laura Ward stayed behind after the service to interact with the congregation over cava, samosas and cake and proved a friendly and engaging conversationalist.

Thank you to our serving team and choir who braved the treacherous icy pavements to turn out in full.

‘Where once fritillaries hung in the grass’ - one of those memorable lines from John Betjeman. No baldachin pillar in this gothic church but a daily mass to guard nonetheless. They’ll be planted along with lots of daffodils in our bulb planting session this Sunday, so bring spades, trowels and BULBS - daffodils, crocus, snowdrops and fritillaries. Let’s make a fabulous display for next Easter!

The ‘wild meadow’ area on the north side of the church has been scarified and sown (so far) with yellow rattle and ox-eye daisies (marguerite). Yellow rattle is useful in that it suppresses grass growth allowing (we hope) other wild flowers to thrive.
