St Saviour's Eastbourne

St Saviour's Eastbourne We offer praise and worship to God seven days a week, seeking to be a House of Prayer for all people, as well as a centre of outreach to the community.

Dedicated in 1867, this Grade II* listed masterpiece by George Edmund Street RA (1824-1881) is an outstanding example of Gothic revival Church architecture. George Street was engaged to design this new church in 1865. He was an architect of international importance at a time when the Oxford Movement was rediscovering catholic theology and eucharistically centred worship. He was a deeply religious

man and could not help being carried along with these ideals. His ultimate expression of these ideals is this magnificent, sacred space. St Saviour’s boasts many examples of stunning decoration, typical of the ‘Arts and Crafts’ Movement and is a unique manifestation of the ethos and beliefs of the Oxford Movement within the Church of England.
