Welcome Revd Nigel and Lianne!
It was a pleasure to welcome Revd Nigel Stones and his wife Lianne to St Bartholomew’s this morning for our Family Service.

Revd Nigel begins a 12-month secondment with the Idle and Sands Group of Churches, and we are delighted that he was able to join us as he starts this new chapter of ministry. It was wonderful to worship together and to share fellowship with Nigel and Lianne.

In his introduction Revd Nigel talked about his calling to rural ministry and is really looking forward to getting to know and working in the communities that are part of the Idle and Sands group of churches.

Please join us in giving them a warm welcome and keeping Revd Nigel and his wife Lianne in your prayers as they serve our churches, schools and communities over the coming year. We look forward to getting to know them both and sharing in their journey together.

A wonderful little discovery at St Bartholomew’s Church this week!

While moving a large rug from beneath the altar, we uncovered this beautiful old mosaic hidden underneath for many years. What a joy to reveal such craftsmanship and history once again.

The design appears to include flowing vines and stylised flowers or pomegranates arranged in the shape of a cross. In Christian symbolism, vines represent spiritual life and our connection with Christ (“I am the vine…” John 15), while the pomegranate is an ancient symbol of resurrection, hope, and eternal life.

It is amazing to think of the generations who may have walked across these tiles before us, and wonderful to see this hidden treasure brought back into the light.

St Bartholomew’s continues to surprise and bless us with glimpses of beauty from the past.
