It is a little cooler this week, but our church remains open to everyone.

Ever wondered whose is the grave with the iron railings in Ordsall churchyard?
Well today the churchyard volunteers decided to give it a tidy up and we discovered that it belongs to two sisters, Mary & Ann Hodgkinson.
They were born into a family who farmed at Morton Grange in the parish Babworth.
Neither sister married and they stayed at home looking after their widdowed father, later moving with him to Barnby Moor.
Following his death, they continued to lived together at Holly Mount on London Road. When younger sister Ann died in 1871, elder sister Mary moved to York where she herself eventually died in 1891, returning to be buried with her sister in Ordsall.

Rev’d Alex shares an update on the small fire in Ordsall Churchyard.

Earlier this evening the Fire Brigade attended Ordsall Churchyard to put out a fire that had started. We don’t know the cause of this but would like to thank them for their help.

As the ground is currently so dry, we ask everyone to take care and not to drop any cigarette butts while passing through. We have no reason to believe that this was done maliciously but know from the news how much worse this could have been. Fortunately no major damage has been done to the graves in this area and the fire did not have time to spread far.

If anyone saw the fire or was in the area at the time, please contact us to let us know.
