Completed restoration of a stole (full relining and also some restoration of the embroidery).

"How do you pick up the threads of an old life?" Well, today I have picked up some of the old threads - quite literally! I have finished my goldwork embroidery for the Royal School of Needlework Certificate in Hand Embroidery. I didn't touch this embroidery since my daughter got ill, for more than 2 years. I finally opened it today when I returned to Hampton Court and the RSN for my first class in over 2 years. And I finished it!! Thank you, my wonderful tutor Sara !

The design was inspired by the metalwork on the altar rail of the Oxford Oratory .oratory (see second photo), and the red silk dupion is a remnant of the fabric that was used for the vestments at the Oratory a few years ago. It was a very very special project!

The House of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ephesus, Turkey. According to early Christian tradition, Our Lady spent her remaining years in Ephesus. While there is no certain proof, it is thought that this is the house where she lived and from where she was assumed into Heaven.

The Royal School of Needlework has a project to preserve knowledge of stitches with an online archive called the Stitch Bank. Benefactors can sponsor an addition to this bank in honour of a living person or in memory of someone who has died.

I am very honoured and deeply touched that the Guild of St Clare has sponsored a stitch at the RSN in memory of my daughter Evelyn who died in November after a 22 month battle with Ewing sarcoma (bone cancer): https://rsnstitchbank.org/stitch/fence-stitch

Both the Guild of St Clare and the Royal School of Needlework are very close to my heart so I can't even begin to explain how special this is to me.
