SAINT OF THE DAY is St. Teresa of Calcutta

Patron of World Youth Day

This wonderful lady is known to the world as Mother Theresa but began her life as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu.

Mother Theresa was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun, founder of the Missionaries of Charity. At the age of 18, she moved to Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto and later to India, where she lived most of her life and carried out her missionary work.

Mother Theresa established Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation that was initially dedicated to serving "the poorest of the poor" in the slums of Calcutta. Over the decades, the congregation grew to operate in over 133 countries, as of 2012, with more than 4,500 nuns managing homes for those dying from HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and tuberculosis, as well as running soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, orphanages, and schools.

We warmly invite all our Christian brothers and sisters in Scotland and the surrounding areas to join us on Sunday September 27th for the annual pilgrimage and celebration of Saint Charbel's Day in Scotland

We are honoured to welcome the Lebanese Maronite Order of London and its parishioners to Scotland for this blessed occasion.

A Solemn Holy Mass will be celebrated at 3:00pm and presided over by Father Johnny Matar, Abbot of Our Lady of Lebanon Monastery, London.

Following the Mass, there will be a procession and veneration of the relics of Saint Charbel, followed by Lebanese hospitality.

‘When the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast.’

At that time: The Pharisees and scribes said to him, ‘The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.’ He also told them a parable: ‘No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new w**e into old w**eskins. If he does, the new w**e will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new w**e must be put into fresh w**eskins. And no one after drinking old w**e desires new, for he says, “The old is good.” ’
