Christchurch Durham Students

Christchurch Durham Students We are a Bible believing church seeking to make Jesus known in Durham. Fundamentally we are:
A family of believers. Gripped by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Many different students come to Christchurch while they’re in Durham: British, international, undergrads, postgrads, and people from all kinds of denominational backgrounds. Our prayer is that during their time with us students will grow hugely in their knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the great joys of following Jesus is being adopted into a family of other believers who encour

age and support us in the Christian life. Many students have found that Christchurch is a great place for making solid Christian friends, and we want to do all we can to help you to build those friendships. Our prayer is that we'd be gripped by Jesus Christ as we meet him in his word and so increasingly moved to trust him, obey him, and live for his glory. Seeking to reach out to the university. We are passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with other students in Durham. Sharing the gospel is exciting and yet daunting, and we are eager to draw alongside students as they speak about Jesus to those around them. Each week during term time we run a number of events specifically for students:

Sunday at 7 is our main weekly meetings, as we gather to hear God's Word and encourage each other to live for him as Christian people do all over the world. The meetings have an informal feel, and visitors are always welcome! Sunday evenings at 7pm in the church building. Focus is our weekly student Bible study night (this year, looking at the book of Romans). This is really the heart of student life at Christchurch as we meet to: eat together, study the Bible in small groups and pray. There's also a talk about a certain area of the Christian life (such as money, marriage, church) or on a particular doctrine from the Bible (such as the return of Jesus, the work of the Holy Spirit, sin, creation) followed by the chance to ask questions. Focus is a great way of getting to know others in Durham and building lasting friendships, as well as a fantastic opportunity to study the Bible. We meet for a meal at 6 pm before bible studies start at 7pm in the church building. Christianity Explored is four week course designed to make it as easy as possible for students to get to the bottom of the claims that Jesus makes for themselves. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re looking into Christianity for the first time or want an opportunity to go over the basics again. Any question is allowed, or you’re very welcome just to sit and listen! A new course will be starting soon.

Join us in thanking God for the work that He did in Belgium this summer. Tyler, Beth, Darcy and Rebekah travelled to Courriere, Belgium to volunteer at Interaction Camp B. As Animefs (leaders in training), they served meals, ran games and other practical tasks. They also spent time together studying Ephesians and had seminars looking at Christian leadership in 1 and 2 Timothy. There were days out including canoeing and go-karting as well as bonfires and beautiful sunsets at the chateau! It was great to get to know the other animefs- despite a lack of French on our part- and learn about Belgium and the church there. It was a joy for them to serve on camp and it was a real encouragement for the coming year!

And this is an encouragement from Beth:

Encouragements is that my campers really seemed to start trying to think of how they could apply their faith to their lives and see how God’s way in all things is better than their own ways.

Let’s continue to pray on for all of God’s people in Belgium!

Praise the Lord for His work in Taiwan this past summer. Peter went on a short term mission trip to Taiwan to help local Christians to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Encouragements to praise the Lord for:
- Hugely encouraged during a sunday service where the Nicene Creed was said together. The global church is one body in Christ!
- Several of the boys from one of the camp weeks came to church in the following weeks, which was a real answer to prayer and cause to give thanks

Pray for:
- There are significant cultural challenges for the church in Taiwan, and there are so many people who have never heard the Gospel.
- Pray for the churches to be equipped and have the resources to spread the Gospel (particularly to the working class and rural areas)

“Matthew 28:19-20 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching the to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
