We were delighted to welcome Patrick Robertson to the church today. Patrick is the great great grandson of the Rev Alexander Gordon, distinguished minister, College principal, historian and scholar. Alexander Gordon (known by his initials AG) was also a loyal member of First Dunmurry (NS) Presbyterian Church who even after his removal to Manchester to be Principal of the Unitarian Home Missionary College returned regularly to Dunmurry, to preach, to attend worship and to join in Communion (only missing once during the First World War due to a railway timetable change in Dublin). He preached his last service here almost at the age of 90 in 1931 and a photographer was on hand to capture the moment. He was famous for his silk top hat and Patrick brought it along for us to see. It can be seen also in the photo from 1931 and you can read about it in a newspaper article from about the same year. Plus we will add a picture of him with his students in 1900. Patrick brought a wealth of information which will provide the basis of much interesting research.
