Acknowledgement & Month Mind Masses.

Rev Father Eugene Hasson.

The sister, brothers and extended family of the late Father Eugene Hasson, PP, Omagh (Drumragh), RIP, wish to express their sincere thanks to all who sympathised with them on their recent loss. We are grateful to everyone who attended the wake and funeral, sent Mass cards, messages of sympathy or letters, and offered support in any way, especially those who travelled long distances to visit Eugene or to attend his funeral.

Special thanks are extended to Bishop McKeown, Archbishop Martin, and the religious and priests who visited Eugene and supported him throughout his illness, and who concelebrated his funeral Mass. We are especially grateful to Fr John Phair for his thoughtful homily, which so sensitively reflected Eugene’s life and vocation, and to Fr Peter O’Kane for his help and support in organising the wake and funeral. The family also wish to express their sincere appreciation to the medical professionals who cared so compassionately for Eugene at home, in Omagh and Altnagelvin Hospitals, in the Foyle Hospice, and to the district nurses and carers.

The family are deeply thankful to the parishioners and people of Dungiven, Drumragh, Greencastle, Glendermott, Lavey, and Claudy; to those who provided hospitality in St Joseph’s Hall and Emmaus Hall; and to the many volunteers who gave so generously of their time and assistance over the days of the wake and funeral. We also wish to thank Eugene’s friends from Loyola University, Baltimore, Maryland, and the Benedictine Sisters, Ridgely, Maryland, for their continued support. Thanks are extended to Charlie Lynch and Seamus McLaughlin, Funeral Directors, and to those who prepared Eugene’s grave.

As it would not be possible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere appreciation. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.

Our Lady of Derry, pray for us.
St Eugene of Ardstraw, pray for us.

Year 2 learned all about St Brigid last week. We listened to stories about her and then we made St Brigid’s crosses. We loved it so much we tried making more during play all by ourselves.

A reminder that there will be a Blessing of Throats by Fr. Gerry after 10am Mass on Tuesday, 3rd February, The Feast of St Blaise.

St Blaise was a 3rd-century Armenian bishop known for his deep faith, fervent love for God and his people, and a reputation for working miracles even during his lifetime.

St Blaise is renowned for his miraculous healing powers, particularly concerning throat ailments.

According to legend, a boy suffering from a severe throat disorder was brought to St Blaise as a last resort. The boy was on the brink of death, with no hope of recovery. Saint Blaise prayed over him, blessed him, and miraculously, the boy was healed.

This established St Blaise as the patron saint for those afflicted with throat injuries and diseases. It is from this miraculous act of healing that we commemorate his feast day and carry out the blessing of throats on The Feast of St Blaise.

Everyone is welcome to come along.

"Lá Fhéile Bríde sona duit,"

A prayer to St Brigid 🙏

Brigid of Faughart, springtime in the air,
A prayer we whisper, a burden we share.
Born into shadows, a spirit so bright,
You shone a beacon, a pure guiding light.

For the poor and the weak, your heart overflowed,
A champion of justice, on life's dusty road.
You saw the suffering, the wounds deep inside,
And fought against darkness, with dignity and pride.

Not just the symptoms, but roots you would find,
The inequality rampant, so hurting mankind.
Told, "Love thy neighbour," lesson often ignored,
The vulnerable neglected, now need hope restored.

From your Kildare Abbey, your teachings did spread,
Your blessings of cloths a faith and hope lead
For sick and the hurting, a faith did ignite,
Believing in healing, with all of your might.

We weave Brigid's crosses, a symbol so clear,
Of Christ's sacrifice, banishing all fear.
Remembering your journey, your commitment untold,
To care for the lost, more precious than gold.

You'd want us to act, not just dream and aspire,
To fight for the helpless, to set souls afire.
For addicts abandoned, a helping hand lend,
Support and compassion, a most faithful friend.

To churches you'd call, for mercy and grace,
To welcome the wounded, in every place.
And each of us urged, in our own humble way,
To brighten the darkness, and lighten the day.

Inspire us, dear Brigid, to love as you told
To cherish the broken, as Christ did of old
A legacy whispered, on February's soft breeze,
A prayer for your blessing, and merciful ease.

Thank you to Liam Begley for permitting us to share this beautiful prayer. St Brigid's Day, 1st February 🙏
