The grounds include the restored castle, a library, a museum, and scenic walks along the River Blackwater. Since coming to Benburb the Servites have maintained an ‘open door’ policy to all of the community regardless of religion and the Priory-Centre is seen as a haven where people can come and feel welcome. The Priory - Centre is open as a Pastoral, Retreat and Conference Centre with bedrooms, co

nference rooms, meeting rooms and catering facilities. It is located in an area of outstanding natural and scenic beauty and of great historical importance, and gateway to the Benburb Valley Park, Benburb Castle and Bawn. The Priory and Centre attracts groups from every walk of life who come to meet and discuss the many complex issues which effect their lives. It is also used as a recreational facility for groups wishing to expand their skills in cultural activities or for those wishing to participate in courses in spiritual and human development. Some of the groups who come are inter-denominational and they spend their time here living, working, praying and recreating together. For many the Priory and Centre provides them with that freedom of association so often denied them in their home or local environment. They soon learn that it is okay to enjoy the company of people who come from different backgrounds and leave having made new friends.

🌿 INFORMATION EVENING – Proposed Columbarium Wall at Benburb Priory 🌿

The Board of Benburb Priory, with the support of the Servite Community, is exploring the possibility of creating a Columbarium Wall as part of a beautiful new prayer and reflection garden within the Priory grounds.

A columbarium is a specially designed wall containing individual niches for the placement of cremated remains. As burial space becomes increasingly limited and facilities for ashes remain scarce, this project would provide a peaceful, dignified resting place in the tranquil surroundings of Benburb Priory.

Currently, only Servite friars can be buried within the Priory grounds. The proposed columbarium wall would offer those with a connection to Benburb, as well as friends and neighbours of the Priory, the opportunity to have their remains laid to rest in this special place of prayer, solitude and community.

As this project is still in its early stages, the Priory Board would like to gauge community interest and hear your thoughts.

St Peregrine Mass
Monday 1st June at 8pm, Celebrant Fr Owen Gorman

Dear St. Peregrine, brother and friend, faithful Servant of Mary, kindly listen to our plea. You showed patience and found strength in your infirmity, always trusting that the Lord, in his goodness and mercy, would hear and answer your prayers. Intercede for us, we pray, that we may also face our trials with courageous hearts, never doubting the goodness of the Lord, and trusting in his healing mercy.
May God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, whose holiness shines forth in you, St. Peregrine, receive all honour and glory forever. Amen.
St. Peregrine, pray for us.

The gates across the grounds of Benburb Priory tell the story of a place shaped by history, faith, and sanctuary.

From Victorian era gates of the Bruce period to newer gates of recent times, they have stood quietly through every chapter of the estate, from its days as a manor house, through its role as a WWII field hospital, to becoming a place of prayer and spiritual retreat.

Among them is the old wrought iron kissing gate, part of the earliest gates and park fencing made using iron brought from Glasgow by boat to Ireland, by rail to Tynan, and finally by horse and cart to Benburb.

In Irish tradition, gates symbolised more than protection. They marked a passage, from the noise of the outside world into a place of peace, welcome, and spiritual refuge.

Old gates. New gates. Still guarding the spirit of the Priory.
