Another lovely morning together!

What was the highlight?

It was probably the presence of 7 children. For two of the Westgait Centres having one or two can be a bonus- although infrequent. So having 7 brought some joy. Talking of Joy, she is the Convenor of our Children, Young People and Families Committee and she organised activities today along with Elizabeth.

Very thankful for those who give their time to do this work. So next week if you are looking for a place where you can worship and have children’s work, come along.

Very thankful for a productive morning with a retired colleague who is helping shape and contribute to our Summer at 7pm gatherings in July and August. John Murray is someone who quietly, thoughtfully and helpfully contributes in so many ways. This year we are exploring the idea of a rule of life which we are calling the Westgait Way.

If you would like to think about a way of life that seeks to bring meaning to joy and pain; fun and boredom; leisure and work and where instead of thinking about scarcity we think about abundance then please join us throughout July and August at the Shaftesbury Terrace building.

This will be a time of worship, learning through conversation and growing deeper in our sense of connection with God, each other and the community around us.

Our first Sunday of Summer Worship and I feel very blessed to be part of Westgait Church! What struck me today-

Two ladies who live a considerable distance from Lochee, were collected by a member of the congregation from the Roseangle Building and brought up to Lochee. No fan fare- An act of quiet kindness and service.

Last Sunday at when we were at our Menzieshill Centre, someone who was due to count the offering was busy dealing with hospitality, organising teas and coffees. Noticing this another local leader went and did the count! No song or dance, just a simple act of loving service.

A hall full of people enjoying friendship and growing in connection. Oh what a blessing!

We had 25 at our 9:30 gathering and an estimated 125 at 11am. Two new people came along!

Experimentation is hard! Change is difficult…but it seems so many want to try and make it work. Of course there will be those who have been unable to attend today and that is something that saddens us.

Sunday gatherings in June:

Please remember that in June our Sunday gatherings will take place at our Lochee Centre- on Coupar Angus Road.

We have a new 9:30am service which is a little shorter and recognises that during the summer some want to be able to worship and then head off to enjoy God’s creation and enjoy some leisure activities.

We then have our 11am service.

Today we held our monthly Westgait Together gathering at our Menzieshill Centre and then John Murray and others helped lead our worship at Menzieshill House. Both were special- however it was great to have ‘afternoon tea’ church with the residents.

This week a family shared with me the importance of a church leading a monthly service in the home their parent was in. It was a highlight for her, a time for faith to be nurtured, hope inspired and being reminded of God’s love.

Thankful for open doors, open hearts and willing servants who do so much.

I would encourage women to think about going along to this.

✨ She Is Called – a new workshop at Craigowl Church ✨
We’re delighted to share an invitation to an upcoming workshop called She Is Called, being hosted here at Craigowl Church.

She Is Called is a reflective and practical workshop for women, creating space to pause, take stock, and reflect on everyday leadership, encouragement, and finding voice in the lives we lead each day.

It’s rooted in warmth, faith, and real‑life experience, and is designed to be accessible and welcoming — no prior church involvement required.

The workshop will be facilitated by Marion Barlas, the wife of our Minister, Chris Barlas. Marion is a leadership coach, facilitator, and community builder, and alongside her involvement in church and community life at Craigowl, she works globally with DXC Technology, supporting leadership development and coaching across the UK and internationally.

Marion brings a warm, reflective, and practical approach to the spaces she facilitates, creating environments where people feel welcome, heard, and supported.

Although She Is Called is designed for women, her wider leadership work is rooted in developing both women and men, with a heart for leadership growth across the whole church and community in future seasons.
