COVID 19 arrangements

As we are no longer able to gather together physically, East Lothian Quakers have adapted to online worship with two different groups.
First we have joined our Friends in Central Edinburgh Quaker Meeting 11-12 on Sunday mornings. If you wish to join worship then, please phone 0131 225 4825 for connection details.
Second, we have started having our own Meeting for Worship for 30 minutes at 7.30 on Wednesday evenings. After that we have a discussion about whatever concerns us, for about another 30 minutes. If you wish to join us then, please contact our clerk Diana Simcock on 01620 880244 or [email protected] for connection details.
You can also contact Diana if you just want to talk to someone local about Quakers.

What is a conscientious objector? This is something that one class at Dunbar Primary found out about recently. Elisabeth Wilson talked to them about her father Jock Wilson, who decided when he was only 14 that as the Bible says it is wrong to kill, then it is also wrong to join the armed forces. Elisabeth talked about his experience in the second World War. He had to convince a tribunal that he was truthful and not just trying to avoid conscription into the forces. During the war he worked for the Edinburgh YMCA, and later he was allowed to go to university, where he was one of the fire watchers. The class were very interested and asked lots of questions, for instance what his family thought.
This is a photo of Jock taken around this time.

Nan is 100! There was great excitement on Sunday when East Lothian Quakers celebrated the 100th birthday of Nan Stewart. See Nan's splendid cake, and photos of cutting the cake watched by Mark Huxham, and also of Diana Simcock, our Clerk, holding the first slice. Nan is holding a birthday card specially made by our youngest member John, only 4.
